Do you know a special needs child or are you in fact a parent of a child with special needs? My son, who is nine next month has special needs and is now attending a special needs school but no thanks to the local medical profesion. After four years of going back and fro to the doctors and heath visitors regarding my concerns for my son I was tired, ready to give up, thought it was just me maybe I was the problem maybe I was just being an over protective and paranoid mother. It wasn't until one of Declans teachers mentioned she too had concerns for Declan that the Doctors woke up and started to take notice. Dex has now been diagnosed as having a very slight case of autism. This is now his third year at his new school and is coming on really well and has now learned how to write his own name, I'm extremly proud of my son and jst wanted to post this to give ma boy a big shout well done xx

We have 2 sons with Asperger's (high functioning autism). Our youngest goes to a special school and he's doing amazingly well. It's like he's a whole different child. He used to have at least 5 hours of rages a day where he would destroy our house. Our oldest has more of the social deficits of Asperger's. It's very hard for him to relate to people. Since they've been getting help we're actually able to do things like go swimming or to the park. That would have been impossible a year ago. Don't give up on getting help for your son it is so worth it to keep going. If you find yourself getting tired of fighting make a list of things that he's been able to overcome and read it over to yourself when you need it. Just take it one day at a time. WTG Declan!!

Hi meaky79! I have a friend who's child is deaf and is in a school for the deaf and blind. My friend is very admirable with how she handles her daughter's life and just like you, she is very protective and sometimes paranoid and no one can't blamed you for acting that way because you love your children very much. Congratulations to your son for his achievement and congratulations to you too for being a good and patient mother. Take care and have a nice day. God bless!
