i am very much confused regarding this.i had known previously that it is good to drink water or fluids two hours before excercising to stay hydrated and then after excercising.but recently i came across an article that said we should drink fluids during excercise at regular intervals to replace water lost through sweating.depending on the sweat rate it ma be between 15-20 minutes interval. freinds please share your views.what do you think about his?are there any hydration guidelines for excercising?if so please share it here.

it depends on the exercise program you are doing. when i used to go to the gym, my instructor would tell me not to drink a lot or eat heavy at least 2 hours before my session starts so that i wouldn't have a heavy feeling while doing the exercise. i was allowed to have sips of water when i run out of breath but i was discouraged to drink. they do this if they are measuring my daily progress. if i drink lots of water during the exercise, it distorts the mass index that they are performing and computation of the weight loss reduction or fat reduction in the body and even the muscle build-up.

currently i am walking on the treadmill and also doing aerobics.but the problem is i am doing these at home without any instructor.so whenever i am feeling thirsty i am taking water.but ofcourse small sips.but i am worried would that disturb the purpose of my excercise regime?i have normal weight and i do these to keep myself fit and in shape.

personally, i don't think taking sips of water in between the exercise would do any harm. if it would help you to push more and enjoy the exercise more, the better. the sip would help ease the feeling of dryness around the throat and lip area while we do a lot of panting after some time in the treadmill.

ya thats the reason i am sipping water in between.otherwise i would better die than do excercise.if i won't sip water that will surely kill me.thanks a lot for clearing my doubts.i think i am on right track.

It depends whether to drink water or not while exercising. Some exercise need lot of water and some need no water, i mean to say if your exercise involves intensive work then water should be avoided but if your exercise involves less work then you can have water.

gym instructors and nutritionists advise to sip preferrably just water, coz juice does have sugar still. =)

If you are thirsty during exercising, why not drink water. I don't think you still have to wait until you finish the work out. Two hours before exercising is too long then the exercise, you would really be thirsty and I believe that you should drink whenever you feel thirsty.

You need lot of water when you perspire during exercise so we take water but for athletes they analyze their sweat and according to the minerals they are loosing they get a special drink - not just plain water.
