I bought a pup three months back and named it Tinny..since then i call him with this name only..but he doesn't seem to respond very well..i went to a veterinary doctor for getting his hearing checked..whether he can hear or not..but it was all well and the doctor told me that he may take some time to learn that..but till now he is behaving in the same way..i wonder if he does not like me...!!strange..!!i love him so much..which rules out this possibility..what can be the reason then..can somebody tell??how can i make him learn that??

How about getting a leash and collar for your dog and when you call him tug his leash. Say like this, "Tinny" then tug tug. Do it over and over till he gets the understanding that that is his name and that you're calling him. In time he should learn it. Good luck!

Yes it's ok to keep a collar on him. He may try to get it off at first which is normal but he'll get use to it eventually. However make sure it's loose enough that you can put two or three fingers through it and his throat so he can breathe but not too loose to where he can get a hold of it with his mouth. Now the teaching his name, over a period of time he should learn it. I'd say in about a week at the longest but would think in a matter of a few days he should know his name and come to you when you call him. Just call him and then tug tug on his leash and then let it slack so he can figure out what you want and if he doesn't get it then do it all over again, "Tinny" tug tug, slack the leash. Also he's a puppy, he will get use to being left in a room. He may not like it but he'll eventually learn to accept it. If he whines and cries, go up to him and point your finger at him and use a command tone of voice and say NO! NO! Then lay him down on the floor and pet him so he'll learn right from wrong. You're very welcome and good luck again! :)

puppies consider the person who feed them their master. make sure that you're the one who's feeding your dog. and everytime you do, call his name before dropping his food down.

He'll learn his name sooner or later. Odds are he already knows his name but he is trying to be mischevious and ignores it.

if you want the dog to learn name quickly use it with a command then when he\she does it properly give him\her the treat. Tinny come. Tinny sit. Tinny sitdown. Tinny heel when walking not tug tug unless your training with a choker then its just a quick tug for a response to stay with you when walking.. he doesn't sound very old yet so just have to be patient with it. I started my training at about 8 months remember some dogs will learn faster then others some like mine seem to take forever lol... mine now will walk and heel with me without lead but i am in the country too... might need to check with local bylaws where you live...

I recommend getting tiny TINY training treats. Treats that your pup can eat in only one bite. Not milkbones or anything like that. What I do for training treats is to take a hot dog, cut it into tiny TINY pieces, then microwave them on a paper towel for about 5-7 minutes till they're kinda gross looking (Don't worry, your dog will LOVE them!) ONLY USE THESE HIGH VALUE TREATS WHEN TRAINING!!! Teaching the name is simple. Have the treats in your hand (don't let puppy see them) and say the dogs name. The MOMENT the dog looks at you, pop one treat into his mouth. Wait a few minutes. Say the name again. If he doesn't look at you the first time, wait a few seconds and say it again, and give the treat. It's good to do this during commercials. Just give him these little TINY treats every time he responds to his name. These treats are also great for training any trick. Good luck!!!

Funny because our dog recognizes his name even when we call from miles away, well I over did it for you to get the picture. But our dog does recognizes his name and its many derivatives. I guess what you can do is go back to the stimulate, reward thing to teach dogs. Every time you call his name, give him somethig he really loves. Most of the time this is food, but don't over do the food stuff or else you might end up over feeding your dog. Give him a scratch in the belly, or a variety of rewards. I hope this helps.
