can you still study/work while watching television?

I was writing something last night and at the same time I was watching my favorite shows on tv. ^__^ House, M.D. was on tv last night and dr. house made me glued to my seat. LOL
it reminded me of my old days when I was still a student. I was and still a tv addict, and I often read my notes, studying and all, in front of the tv while watching my favorite shows. ^__^ it seems impossible at first but I got used to it, glancing at my notes during commercials and doing my best to stick 'em to my head even if I was seeing my favorite celebrities and anime shows in front of me. LOL
I was able to study, really, but only a few pages but still, I studied and the habit remained on me. LOL and last night I did manage to finish my article. ^__^ old habits die hard as one of you said. LOL

oh too bad. i always feel proud when i can do two things at the same time. LOL especially that habit of mine, studying while having fun watching tv. ^__^

i know. but i can also understand and grasp the meaning of what im reading even if im watching tv. ^__^ and besides, i read during commercials. ^__^

I can't do it...unless it's mtv or myx then I'd probsbly end up listening and not watching...I usually turn the radio on when I study and really turn it loud so as to drown the sounds from outside the house...but then if it's something that doesn't require to think, like nail polishing (I do it while watching tv) then it is possible...
oh btw, I have 2 seasons of House in dvd...I'll try to bring it with me...

the sarcastically sadistic doctor?! whoa...I woudln't mind being with the other female doctor though...I do clean my nails...I am not that comfortable with letting other people handle my nails, but I seldom do it since it hurts my neck...I'll try bringing the dvd's if my bro lets me...

pretty much..television is not really a distraction for me, even if it's my favorite show..If I am doing somehting I'll doi (study,read,write) while TV is on..and if what I am doing is so important it gets the best of me while galncing at the TV once in a while, but if what I work on is not too important the televison get the best of my attention.

Yes i can. In fact i need either the television or music to concentrate about what i am doing. Not that i am listening or watching, just something to keep me going.

yeah i can study everytime...i enjoy to study in night but sometimes i must study in morning.......i'd like to study while watching tv or listening to the radio.. i can consentrate while every situation.............

LOL we have the same habit i guess. its much fun to study while doing something fun like watching tv right? its boring when all you do is study straight. i lose the mood to study when i do that, so i need a little diversion. ^__^

yeah very very boring if we must study straighly................i'd like to study when the situation is happy and i enjoy to study with tv or radio....are u student friend?? so, u must study like me......

When I was still in my school days, yes. Actually, I share the "same talent" with my sister.^_^My father can't understand how we can do two things at the same time. And we just tell him that all it needs is great practice and concentration. But now!I'm a stay-at home mom so I don't study anything or bring work at home. Usually, I do my budgets on my "special notebook".But I often get distracted when the TV is on and my favorite show is playing. I usually end up, finishing the show and an incomplete list of budget.

no. i cannot concentrate if i'm studying while watching television. my mind would focus more on the tv show than on what i'm reading. when i'm in school, i usually study in the library to have silence so i can focus. when i'm at home, i study with the television off and without music. =)

i studied in our libraries too. well yeah its effective but sometimes i just cant help but be bored and my mind wanders off. LOL worst, when im with my friends, we just chat and make landi. LOL good thing i never ever slept there. or did i?? 0_o hahaha...

No i think when one should study he/she should devote him/herself to that job as doing to things at the same time might not be purposeful in the end so better i watch tv or i do my work as i don't want to divert my attention :)

No I can't. I need absolute quietness when I study or work and I can't watch TV or listen to music during the concentration. I have to focus on my studies or work first and have my high concentration on it. After I am done (usually that's quite fast), I will move on to other entertainment. When I was in school, my mom would knowingly turn off the TV if I had my exams!

what a smart mom you have. ^__^ when i was in college i never had my mom beside me to annoy me and tell me to study. LOL i studied far from home where my family couldnt just barge in and visit me. ^__^ i couldnt remember much of any studying when i was in high school because studying then wasnt that much serious than studying for college.

sometimes i do,sometimes i can't depends how calm and relaxing i am at that moment.when i was younger i could concentrate better than i do now.i guess i got older so my mind isn't so good as it was that time.

good point. i think the state of the mind also has something to do with it. if im relaxed i can concentrate on both, watching the show and studying during commercials. ^__^ but im feeling hyper, i couldnt really concentrate especially on studying. LOL

Ha, I wish I could manage to do both at the same time. I often try to study while watching TV, but I always can't concentrate on my books, so I end up just watching TV instead. I only look at my notes during commercials, so I manage to learn a tiny bit only.

that's what i do! i look at my notes during commercials or try to write something during commercials! hmmm.. but i remember trying to write something while watching a movie on dvd. i ended up writing only a single paragraph. LOL but at least i accomplished something right?? ^__^;;

yes, i c an do many things at a time, but I'm not a robot, okay... i can even study with a tv in front of me...aside from watching tv, i can even cook while writing of something and everything...
im so flexible you know, its what i usually do, studying while watching tv, with loads of books for refer for my assignments or to right into.

wow! you're a talented one! i tried studying while washing my laundry when i was a student but i ended up wetting my notes! LOL although i was able to memorized a few topics, i never did it again. ^__^;; i couldnt risk the safety of my notes. LOL

of course; you can still study while watching television or doing your work.
it depends on he person who's doing this kind of things..
there are some people that are content to this, they much enjoying their studies while watching television
although not all, because some are not. they need silence or they need to be alone to understand better the lesson their doing

I draw or paint while listenign to tv or radio, and it will forever be imprinted in my brain to remember what I was hearing/seeing whilst doing a project just by looking at the finished project afterward.I will look at it and hear a song or see a show in my memory,I don't like to work without background noise, so i guess when my brain is exceptionally opened,lol, what goes in stays as whatever is coming out, comes out!

Yes ,artist/writer...who has been blind for a year,recently gained my sight back through surgery, and I can still hear what I was listening to, just by seeing and old piece of work,lol.Yep, that's me, thanks for asking!:)

I like watching television while doing light work but if I am into a serious work I have to concentrate on it to get a satisfactory result. I used to work in a camp where there is nobody around except myself in my office. When I get bored I will switch on the television and watch my favorite show while doing my daily routine jobs. It was fun, and I still do it until now. It also gives a way of entertainment and reduces the work pressure.

right! doing something fun while working reduces work pressure. i couldnt have said it any better. ^__^ i like watching tv too and i couldnt get the habit out of my system. so even if i work at night, i still watch tv. ^__^

no, i can't study and work while watching television. When i write something, i can listen to music, but it must be lyric, then i can write fast. i often like watching television on bed or sitting on the floor and drink a bottle of soft drink and eat some candy and biscuites. i'm a lazy girl, hehe.

LOL we can be lazy at times. but not always. so when i have to work at night, or when i had to study at night, but i feel like watching tv, i do both things at the same time even if i can only finish a few pages of what im reading or working on. im okay with it as long as im having fun while still doing my work. LOL

When I was in school I could do it easily, but if I was doing math(which I like), it would often win out over the tv. After I was out of school for many years I could watch tv and read at the same time and be able to tell someone days later everything I had read and everything that happened in the tv show. But I didn't do it for several years because of eyeglasses problems and now I am limited to reading during commercials. Which, of course, means that I get a lot less reading done and now mylot has cut back on that even more.

LOL i was surprised to see myLot there. ^__^ yeah i guess its bad for the eyes. i remember when i was addicted with cross stitching, i do it even late at night and while watching tv. when i was in high school i had to wear glasses for half a year. i still cross stitch though but not during night. LOL

Once in a while, I think that study and watch tv is fine... in the comercial time... but I do not think I can study that way all the time.
For work it id different, depend on what kind of work are you doing... manual stuff no problem, but doing numbers... I do not think so...

I wouldn't want to work on numbers too when I'm watching my favorite tv shows. I would need total concentration coz I find numbers hard to deal with. LOL

nah. before i used to think i was good with numbers, but then as time goes by i realized i wasnt. ^__^;; or rather, i dont have the patience for it. LOL i'd rather write while watching tv than compute while watching tv. ^__^
