Too Affectionate!

I was given a cat a few months ago, and she is the most loving and affectionate cat i have ever seen! She loves people, my son, the dogs, our other cat. She loves everything! The only problem being that she just doesnt know when enough is enough, sometimes i need a little bit of peace! Even if i'm doing the dishes she's up there with me, rubbing on me and walking over the CLEAN dishes. She's not scared of getting wet at all. She jumps up on my lap when i'm in the toilet, which is quite irritating, sometimes i just want to pee in peace. haha. She also insists on sitting on my arms when i'm typing on the keyboard, she rolls over it and usually deletes what i'm trying to right (like right now!) Cats, cant live with them, cant live without them! ANyone else have an over affectionate cat??

Hello genuinesqueak and welcome to myLot. I have an 8 year old cat who was like that for the first 4 years. He was 3 months old when I got it... and for those first 4 years... I could not sit down without it jumping on my laps. It came to the stage where he would miaou until I sat down (laugh). I love him as much as he loves me... so I let him have his evil way most of the time. (laugh) But I taught him to understand that "No" means "No" (laugh). I only have to give him a firm "No" once and he is out of there. My cat has never been locked up. He is free as a bird to move in and out of the house through a trap door. We moved in the bush 18 months ago and with no-one around... he went to look for the wild cats... and found them. His latest trick is that he brought a wild cat home 3 months ago. And now he has a female companion. The only problem is that I am terrify of what's going to happen next. My cat taught me quite a few things. He has taught me that cats don't get lost. He has desappeared for several days so many times... that it is not funny. Both here and in Sydney. I spent hours looking for him... never found him... but he always come back in his own good time. In the bush... he taught me that he can survive without me by catching his own food. He likes fresh rabbits. (laugh) He had so many injuries through his fighting that I worked out that I would not be earning enough to pay for the vet bills. So I learned to patch him up myself. Their abilities to heal are amazing. I bath his wound in salt water... put a bit of savlon anti-septic cream on it... and he is good as new. Within 24 hours... he is back out there... looking for another fight. It helps that he wins and is king of the jungle wherever he goes. Not even the wild cats can beat him. Actually he has not had a real fight for six months. I think the male wild cats have decided to move out of his territory.

Sounds a bit like my old cat! She never once got attacked by the wild cats, and if she heard them around, she'd be the first to the scene to beat them up. You'd see fur coming off the other cats, she'd come back with not a scratch on her. I think her father had feral cat in him, so she was almost feral type. She was tiny though, half the size of a normal cat but had so much more power than them, or speed. haha. She'd beat up our tom cat no worries. Oh i try to say 'No'. Usually i just keep putting her down on the ground, or pushing her off, she just loves people too much. haha. And by the way he looks gorgeous :)

Wilby - Wilby is a very affectionate cat
Awww - bless her - she just loves you so much and wants you to love her back!! Maybe she was abandoned, so she's scared of being alone again, and she loves her new home and owners so much she's afraid if she leaves you alone, you may disappear:-(( I have 6 cats - and they are all quite affectionate. Wilby especially (in photo)- has a tendancy to leap on your knee the minute you sit down, and tries to push his head between me and the screen when I'm on the PC.

She has actually been passed around alot, why i don't know. I could never leave her, she's just too loving. My friend got her from someone else, then my friend became pregnant and said she'd love me to have her because she knows i love cats. And although i am pregnant too, i can handle the cat smells alot better than her. So she might be just scared she'll be passed on again. Which she wont be :)

Your cat sounded so special. It's amazing how one animal can effect our lives so much. And you really don't know how much they do effect you until they're gone, and you go through all the emotions as if losing a child or friend. But i guess they really are like our children sometimes.

I like cats a lot and i have one and she is very adorable the main thing that we should try to communicate with them. Be a little harsh when they are doing the things that should not be done and if we do that for quite a few times they will understand and will not bother after that. Animals too understands our feelings, i think you are too affectionate and so the cat is taking full advantage of it. Try to let him understand what should not be done by being a little harsh.

Oh i do try to be harsh, i push her off the table or off my lap, and i even ignore her, and she still comes straight back up. I guess she just knows i'm a pushover.

I think you are so lucky you have got somone who loves you so much. It is hard to find so much love in this world and we all are praying for that. few lucky among us get that. Remember this love is more pure than a human love as there is no selfishness, no cruelty involved in this affection, its only some true love and dependence. She is totally dependent on you and happy discovering a trustworthy shelter for her.may be use some cat gmes or something when you need to do your work and let her involve in that type of plying material. Buy different play for her. But I wish I could have a cat like thi. I absoluely love them

Thank you for your reply, it was very sweet. She really is a lovely cat, and likei said above i would never trade her for the world. I love how cats and dogs too, have that unconditional love, i guess like most any animal really.

Wow... such a lovely cat! I want to have a cat as affectionate as she is. I do! I like cats very much and I don't mind if she's very affectionate. It will surely light up my whole day. However, being too affectionate irritates. I understand that. Cats are similar like kids too. They don't know what they're doing. If they feel like doing it, they'll do it. Lol. I had two cats, one female and one male. The female one is affectionate too. She will always come and sit on my lap when I sit on the sofa. Then she will massage my thighs and later she will go to sleep. She will even sleep on my bed in the middle of the afternoon! I've already considered her as part of family member, and not an animal! Lol... Yeah, I agree. Cats are adorable. Can't live with them, but can't live without them. I love both of them! I know you love yours too!

I have never really had a cat, but my dog is also very affectionate. She loves attention, but she doesn't annoy my and my family for it. She is just happy to receive it.
