Where do the toads come from, how do they get to my yard?

We purchased a house last year and the whole neighborhood is new construction, there wasn't anything here prior. We promptly added alot of plants and ground cover in the front yard. I joked with my husband one night last summer about 2 months after planting stuff and said "Well we have plants now so the toads will come" I kid you not I then walked over to turn on the hose and there was a big fat toad (they are so cute). He has lived in our yard for the past year, I saw him while watering this evening. My questions is where did he come from? There wasn't anything around prior to the house being built. Maybe he crossed from the house on the other side of the neighborhood? Silly post but I am curious :)

Well it depends, is there or were there any near bye ponds at all close to the area? he might of came from there or had been on the land were they were building houses and found your garden a safe place to be. other words I don't no where he could have come from.
