Opening a Bar

I am thinking of opening a bar in my neighborhood. I would love some feedback from everyone about what they look for in a sports bar. I am looking at going that route. Do you look for billiards, fooseball, pinball, or do you look for sports on big screens, beer, and snack foods? Or all of the previously mentioned? What time would you expect a sports bar to open? Would you expect a jukebox or just tv? Please help. I would love to hear everyone's opinion.

I think a sports bar is awesome, I like for them to have plasma screens, pool tables, the best drinks, and some pretty good munching foods, like nachos, personal size pizzas, etc. I would expect a sports bar to be open on the weekends around noon probably and during the week around 4 or 5 because you can even appeal to the happy hour crowd with that. You know I think it would be cool to have a bar with a different kind of theme....not sure what though, just seems the sports bars are so popular...

Yea, I thought about more of a bar and grill or dance/sports bar, but in the area that I live in there are no Sports related bars. I think it would be a great add to the community. I also want to make it family friendly that's part of why I considered a few video games and pinball machines. The kids would enjoy that and it's another good way nto generate income.

I think a few pool tables, dart boards, a few TVs maybe a jukebox or someone to play DJ. ... You can be open from 11 to 2 for a lunch type crowd and 4 to midnight for an after work crowd. You can have 2 sections to it .... say left side with pool tables and jukebox and dart boards and SMALL tables or a bar against the wall, right side have bigger tables, TVs and an area in between with a small dance floor. Just an idea. If that confuses you I can draw what I'm talking about and scan it and post it, though I'm not sure if it'll be big enough though or I could email it to you.

You were thinking along the same lines I was, ut the biggest piece of advice I got was to start small. If the business fails I don't have to give my kid away to pay for the debt, haha. Thanks for the feedback.

I don't know where you are, Zoesmom... it sounds from your name as though you might be in the States. I am in England, and here, popular games in sports bars are pool, bar billiards, darts, bowling or skittles, snooker, and perhaps even table tennis if there is enough space. Some of the older customers, or quieter customers like to play dominoes still and one pub I know in North Yorkshire, keeps a Scrabble Game in the bar. lol.
