Have you lost a friend or had to drop a friend because they were toxic?

Have any of your friends stopped being friends? Did they just stop staying in touch, did you have a fight or did they explain that they just couldn't be frends any more? Do you have any friends you specifically remember dropping - just because of time - maybe a fight, maybe because you found them unhealthy?

I had a friend i had known for about 2 years in high school and we ended up going to the same college. We ended up on the same floor in the same dorm. she had a roommate and mine never showed up. about 2 weeks into school, she wasn't getting along with her roommate and asked if she could stay with me. I kind've hesitated because she irritated me at times and she had a reputation. I let her move in. she lasted for two weeks, we got into a big argument and she moved out within the next week. She went to our hometown and told everybody lies about me, but they didn't believe it. Probably about a month later, we were in our hometown for christmas break hanging with mutual friends. We ended up apologizing to eachother and hugging on it. After we got back to school we never spoke again. That was 9 years ago. She wasn't a close friend anyway though.

Wow what a story, ranitam. Its horrible that she told lies about you. Did you ever point out that she didn't get along with her other roomate either and maybe she was the xfactor there? I'm glad she wasn't a close friend, and I'm glad people in your home town knew you enough not to believe any of the lies she told. Thanks so much for once again participating in my discussion. Have fun mylotting!

Yea happened all the time in high school, many of them were either too lazy, cruel, or criminal. Of course, I kept my head on straight while most everyone lost there's and I was able to become an adult because of it.

I commend you for it. Its hard to cut friends off. Sometimes though, as has happened to myself and my sister, its healthier. Some friends get into the same situations over and over and don't learn. They don't know they're lazy, cruel, manipulative etc. To them, many times, the world is out to get them - and sometimes they think - the world is out to get me - why don't I just get them first?

There were a few favourite answers I had for this best response thing but I liked yours because it shows that you must have not only transformed yourself but eliminated from your life those influences that might tempt you back. It shows a level of maturity and self esteeem. Good stuff.

yes, i have lost 3 dear friends in my life. they moved far away. i am still corresponding with one. but i have broken up friendships with a few people. for various reasons. 2 female friends were after my hubby. thats reason enough. one other friend badmouthed me to various people. she had to go.

Hello!I had one friend here where i live now and i stopped being friends with her because it wa almost impossible to go out in public with her, especially in a restaurant to eat dinner with. She swore all the time and talked VERY loud.It was embarrassing for me,alot. So i knid of drew myself back frome her slowly,by allways having somewhere to go or do.It worked. We meet in the store sometimes and she invites me over or something,i just say yah, when the time is right and im home.I will always remember this one because of the very loud fowl mouth!

I had a friend like that in highschool - very loud and rather crude. I was a good girl though and lived vicariously through her adventures. I can't believe now they're all true! She was my opposite, loud and boisterous and apt to go to wild parties and have all KINDS of dramas involving guys and who knows what! Thanks for another great response peanutjar. Love reading through my responses and seeing that cute avatar.
