How are we to praise God?

I'm very keen on hymns and I like to sing praises to God. But in the New Testament we don't find much teaching about praising God through the singing of hymns. Now days in most churches a lot of time and effort is spent on praising God by singing but are we really praising God as the bible teaches us?

The book of Psalms is my favorite. It tells us exactly how to praise and worship our father in heaven. In the New Testament we have more duties. The Great Commission, go into all the world and preach the gospel...

You mean this?Happy those who do not follow the counsel of the wicked, Nor go the way of sinners, nor sit in company with scoffers. Rather, the law of the Lord is their joy; God's law they study day and night. They are like a tree planted near streams of water, that yields its fruit in season; Its leaves never wither; whatever they do prospers. But not the wicked! They are like chaff driven by the wind. Therefore the wicked will not survive judgment, nor will sinners in the assembly of the just. The Lord watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin.

The book of Psalms was the Jewish "hymn book" in use at the time Jesus was alive. Jesus didn't come to establish a religion, but to revitalize people in their relationship to God. Thus, he didn't spend a lot of time instituting rituals or forms of worship - He was a devout Jew teaching other Jews to love God, therefore, He expected His audience to already understand the forms of worship. The new Testament doesn't speak much of singing because the Jews sang the Psalms in worship already. We do find verses in Paul's writing, however, that specifically mention "Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs," and suggest that their proper function is speaking to and encouraging one another in our devotion to God.

I think God created musics, so it is okay to praise him thru songs and hymns. We do this in our church also, and it is really enjoyable to go praising God to different hymn. It is really praising when there is additional music.

true worship or praise is being on the same spirit with God every day whatever we do. It is not based on what we feel or emotions. God is the Only One who can judge it, our motive ,our ways in praising Him.
