Hi all! I was watching Fons and Porter this afternoon and got totally inspired to make a new quilt! I started at their website (www.fonsandporter.com) and couldn't find the directions (yet) for the quilt. Since it was John Flynn was their guest speaker and it was his quilt design, I went to his website (www.flynnquilt.com). By this time, I had forgotten what I was searching for, and just started enjoying the gallery, patterns, kits, etc. that were on his website. I then checked his links, and saw one for the Worst Quilt in the World. http://amisimms.net/worquilworco.html I chose the "official Contest Entries" and scrolled down to one that said "Kitty In a Blender." OK, are you bored with my story yet? I'm almost done. :) Reading the description of this quilt http://amisimms.net/kittyinblender.html I discovered the maker of this quilt!!! It's JOHN FLYNN! Now, the moral of this tale... it doesn't matter how famous you are, how great of a crafter you are, you can still manage to make an ugly quilt! LOL!

LOL! I can relate. I watch them and Simply Quilts all the time. However, I decided I wanted to enter the Hoffman Challenge this year. I went and bought the challenge fabrics and drew up a design in my EQ5 program. And then the worst quilt I've ever started began. I'd never done foundation piecing, but I thought it would be easy and I'd get all those little points straight and all that. The part I didn't know, is to cut the pieces oversize. So needless to say, I had to buy more fabric. I still haven't got the quilt together and didn't even attempt to enter the contest with it. One of these days I'll find the time to finish it, and maybe it won't be my worst looking quilt ever. The moral of my tale is "when at first you don't succeed, try again."

try again, and again, and again in my book! LOL! Go ahead and finish your ugly quilt. (I've got one in my closet waiting to be finished, too!) I think we've all made at least one in our lifetimes. Make sure you post a photo of it, so we can all vote if it truely is an ugly quilt or not! Welcome to mylot, by the way!! Glad you have you here. :)

Neat site! I have to say though that some of those quilts were NOT ugly! I've made several quilts that I wasn't happy with, but I don't think they were actually ugly either. I'm too particular about my color choices, so if they don't look good when I lay it out, it doesn't get sewn! lol! Thanks for the links!

HAH HA! Man, that was...weird! But eh, even the best of the best have flops. Not only that, you've got to remember that quilting is art and art is subjective. One man's worst of could be another person's best of. Consider that.

I agree. The quilt itself is beautiful. I love John Flynn's work! It is just the thought of it... kitty fabric sliced and diced and then mixed with RED fabric. I can completely understand the name of this quilt, that's for sure! :)

Hello Creematee--this is Missypanther. I like to watch the Fons and Porter show but I always forget it is on and miss it. I like the other quilting/sewing show that is on before theirs. I really miss not having cable here in Littleton. I have so many sewing projects piled up in the sewing room that I don't know where to start. I have a request from my oldest son for a queen-sized quilt dedicated to NASCAR and the Earnhardts. I have got to get pretty soon as I would like to have it done in time to enter it into the arts and crafts competition at the Jesup Farmers Days in July next year. Have a great time now that the kids are back in school.

Hi Missy! Sounds like you are going to be pretty busy. I enjoy F & P immensely. I suppose it is because they make quilts that I can do! Most of my quilts have come from their books/magazines. We're not home much on Sat. so I don't get to watch their shows much anymore. I do watch their shows once in a while on QNNtv.com. I haven't done too much sewing this summer. The vegetable garden calls, and unfortunately, tomatoes wait for no man. Soon it will be cool enough to get back to fabric fondling, though.
