i have asthma that is bothered by extremes in temperatures (i live in canada and we get hot hot in june/july and well of course canada is known for its cold weather!) and lately i have noticed that ice cream is making me reach for my inhalor as well. it must be the high level of creme content that it has? i am not sure. (most people know that milk thickens your mucas...)

The cause of asthma is not known, although you can have a genetic predisposition to it (that is, it may run in your family). There have, however, been many research projects which have started to give clues. For instance, when East and West Germany united, it was discovered that East German children - who generally lived in more polluted surroundings and poor conditions - had far less asthma than their privileged counterparts in West Germany. Research resulting from that observation seems to suggest that if children are over-protected for dirt, germs and bacteria in their early childhood are MUCH more likely to develop asthma than children who are not. Studies have also been conducted with pigs (whose systems, funnily enough, behave more like human beings than any other animal, including chimps). In these studies, some piglets were kept in a sterile environment while other piglets were kept in a normal muddy sty for the first few months of their life. All the piglets who were kept in the sterile environment grew up to have asthma! This suggests that our Western mania for being germ-free is contributing to the rise and rise of asthma.

Asian Lady Beetles (Lady bugs Asian Variety) caused mine.. We have them invade our houses by the thousands... I never had an allergy in my life until they showed up.. My asthma only reaction around the time the weather changes as that is the time the bugs are all invading our homes, and leaving our homes.. So we vacuum up so many the entire place fills with lady bug smell and they leave this orange sucretion.. that is what caused mine. - DNatureofDTrain
