Although I was very surprised at first, after I learned about the virus I wasn't & I don't think it's a such a big deal now at all. I had an abnormal pap back in 1994, at which time I had been in relationship for 6 years. Since I always get my yearly exams, I was positive this was proof he was cheating on me. It wasn't. The virus can lay doormat for years, decades & in some people perhaps even their whole lives. I had a biopsy done, then a laser treatment (called either a leap or a loop, I forget now). As I understand the other treatment method which involves freezing the area is more uncomfortable than what I had, but my procedure wasn't especially uncomfortable. I had to have a pap every 3 months for two years, my very next one was also abnormal but my biopsy was fine. Thirteen years later and it hasn't come back. If it does I am confident the treatments available are perfectly safe & very effective. The vaccine just has not been proven safe enough or effective enough to me yet. I will not encourage my daughter to have it any time soon.
