Even though most of the schools in the United States have off all summer long. There are some schools in the United States that are year round. For example where I live my kids are in a year round school zone. But when it is time for them to start elementary, I will be filing out an out of area form for them to go to a reg school with summers off. I for one don't like year round schools. Now granted year round school has its advantages, but I grew up having summers off and that is what I want for my kids.

yeah..summer off is really something to look forward too..but when you graduate from high school..you have work and college..or college year round to contend with...I just wonder sometimes if the kids weren't off so very long for summer would the adjustment be easier..

My son gets his summers off. There are some states in the US that go year round I have some cousins that live in Colorado and they go year round they go for like 6 weeks then have 3 weeks off then keep doing the same thing. I like my kids having the nice summers off to enjoy.

There are year round schools in Canada as well, but as I do not have any children of my own,it is difficult to say which is right. In my opinion though,if you were able to split the holidays into 1/2 in summer and 1/2 in winter,it would be easier all around,as the ones that love the winter, for skiing, skating and such, and have a longer Christmas holiday, and for the summer lovers, the same thing, and the one holiday would not be so long, that most kids and parents would not get so bored and worn out. Just my opinion, what do you think? Have a great holiday.LoL

When my boys went to school, they had the summer off, but our Province in its "wisdom" decided that school started the day before Labor Day although they had Labor Day off and went back to school. It made it hard for the parents who wanted the kids to go on vacation with them, so last year, our schools changed the rule to correspond with the other schools in Canada, so that Manitoba schools now go to school the day after Labor Day and not the day before. There is no advantage of going year round, because this means the parents have to forgo their holidays as well and no parent wants to go traipsing off to the Grand Canyon when their children are still at school.
