What images comes in to your mind when we speak about State Universities and Colleges? I am sure, you will be thinking about a state - subsidized education or a free - quality education... That case may somewhat contradictory in a primier state university in the Philippines - the University of the Philippines! Last December 15, 2006, the UP Board of Regents approved the 300% increase in tuition fee from 300 to 1000 per unit in UP Diliman, Manila, Los Banos and from 200 to 600 per unit in UP Baguio, Visayas and Mindanao. According to the UP Administration, there is a need to adjust the tuition because of the inflation... How about you guys, is it reasonable to adjust the tuition into 300% and is it rational for a state university to increase its tuition? Pls. response....

yeah... another problem: UP's freshies who belong to what the admin would describe it as BRACKET E are still waiting for grace that their 4 - month stipend will b released! For example in UP tacloban alone. some staff of OSA would say that the reason for the delay release of STFAP allowance is that there is no proper implementing rules and guidelines on how to release or what is the process for the rlease of the allowance since there is no clear guidelines on this matter. either monthly basis or semestral basis. and also with the partition of 12,000 per sem. is it 2,400 per month or another partition in the book and lodging allowance.

this has been happening for years almost immemorial. ever since i stepped into schooling with tuition fees, i have witnessed this thing. it happens almost every year and i think this only shows laxity in the field of educational program. add to this the corruption from all walks and levels of employees concerned.

It all boils down to the budget allocation of the Philippine Government.I think they spend more in defense and debt repayment. I joined rallies and mobilizations but its no use, the tuition still went up. Right now I can't enroll because to study again means to pay almost 12 thousand. Of course it isn't fair, the tuition is supposed to be free since UP is a state-run school. But where will the state get its money?
