I am a witness that poverty causes depression. I am not competely broke but I don't have very much money in my wallet at this point and I am starting to get really depressed. So I was just thinking that someone who has NO MONEY must be REALLY depressed and I feel their pain.

Cheer up - cheer up
Yes poverty may lead to depression. And I empathize with people coping with poverty.

Yes, there are a lot of things that can cause depression and this is one of them. Anything that severely effects our lives can cause depression and certainly poverty does.

I totally agree. I wish that I was a millionaire because all the money that these other millionaires possess they send it to other countries when US families are struggling and need assistance. There is no excuse for anyone being homeless.

I am, essentially, completely broke(despite having a full time job). My car broke down for the 4th time in less than 2 months and I can't even get it back now because I can't afford the bill(turned out to be far more than I'd anticipated). Without my car, I cannot work. If I don't work, I do not generate income. It's a really vicious circle I've got going on here. My state of brokeness didn't cause my depression though, that is a longstanding issue I have had since well before I really began to hit bottom, but it certainly doesn't help any. Being unable to pull myself up and out of my financial situation does nothing but create further stress that I don't cope with too well. Lots of times you will hear people say that money doesn't bring happiness... but you know, it can at least bring stability, which would be much welcomed in my life at the moment.

Hi... I'm sorry to hear about you... I've been through this... I've seen times, when I did not have anything to eat for 10... I'd lost my weight a great deal then... The worst ever days of my life... Have faith my friend.... First of all, you need to begin with what you've got before it is over... There's some money yet with you, thats good.. Use this money to find a job for yourself... Find a job, before the money runs out... Once you start working, all your problems will come to an end... I made mistakes in my life.. And the only thing that I learned is, keep working... Your Poverty or depression or any other negative stuff; they'll all run away and will never come back.... Good Luck my friend.... :-)

Hi friend, sad to hear about this, don't worry about your poverty. You can make a good money based on your hard work and dedication. Don't waste your time in worries, try to find a proper job and earn more from it. All the best

The feeling of losing hope can bring us feeling so down. You're like not in the right time and place, the load seems carried on your shoulder. I do think it is not the reason to blame yourself of being in that position. There will a better things to come for you, it will come unexpectedly.

I know the feeling girl...I have two kids and we're lvijng pay check to paycheck barely able to pay bills--let alone pay them on time. Its hard to keep food on the table and diapers on my sons...and no help from the state either. Yeah it is very stressful and can be a little depressing..but keep your chin up it can only get better right?

Yes, Poverty, and fearing ending up on the streets, not knowing if you are going to be able to eat where you will be... Causes major depression. Having many to care for.. that I can not easily afford to do.. and being more dependant on others because of poverty.. is all reasons I get depressed on and off. That is why I am on mylot I am hoping the small cash I earn here can help me with some of the poverty problem. Thank you for the good post... but don't forget other things cause depression too. .. when you hit rock bottom there is one one way to go up .. climb out and fight hard :) .

I agree. Poverty does make people very upset. There are many factors that go in to actual clinical depression, though.
