How effective do you think those computer calls are?

I mean, do you stay on the line until a live person gets on? Me, I don't answer my home phone anymore unless I know who's calling and I want to talk to them because for the past several months someone has been calling and hanging up. My family knows that if they want to get in touch with me they should call my cell or start leaving a message and I'll pick up when I hear its them. And as for the computer calls, if it leaves a message when I'm not home I just hit the delete key without even listening to it. At work though since its my job to answer the phones, as soon as I hear the computer, down goes the receiver. So what does everyone else do? Do you wait to hear the complete message or do you hang up as soon as you recognize that its a computer call?

Luckily, I have caller ID on my home phone and my cell phone, so if I don't recognize the number, I just won't answer it. Which means that those computer calls just get "screened." They occasionally end up on our voice mail, but then I just delete them. At work, we don't have caller ID (oh, how I wish we did!), but I don't think we get many computer calls. We do get telemarketers, and I just try to be polite but firm with them.

I used to have caller ID on my home phone. But I got rid of all that when I got a cell phone with the very same package. I do have an answering machine and yes, I do end up getting some of the computer calls there. Like you, I just hit the delete key. When I get telemarketer calls at work I just tell them that they were calling a hospital and hang up. I'm not as polite as you. :-) I don't have any patience for telemarketers.
