Do you ever bite your tongue? I mean actually, literally bite your tongue not keep your opinions to yourself. I do on occasion, partly because I have no joint on one side of my jaw. Anyway I bit it really badly a couple of weeks or so ago almost in the center and about a third to halfway back. It caused a raised sore bump that felt huge to the roof of my mouth, but when looked at in the mirror was not all that big. It took about a week and a half for it to get well, although their is still a raised small place there. As I said the bump was not actually very big, nowhere near the size of what people who pierce their tongues wear in just about the same location. So after my experience, I just don't see how they can stand to have something that big hitting against the roof of their mouth and interfering with chewing and talking, etc. Your comments and experiences on both bitten toungues and toungue piercing are welcome.

Yes, I have that problem because of the after effects of my broken jaw as I mentioned above.

I have never gone through that agny , but my daughter did . She was four years old when a friend of hers playfully hit her and drove her toung right through her toung . ALL THE WAY THROUGH !!! I had just moved in the building and a complete stranger came and told me , she was bleeding really bad so this lady drove me to the hospital and stayed while she was given 19 stitches , they gave her a popcicle to take down the swelling down and thats about all ate for a week besid soup ... She must have forgotten about it because she is 22 as of yesterday and she had her toung pierced before , meanwhile it got infected and she had to have it removed in hospital ... BRAVE !!!!

In my culture, we say, a when a well cooked food is being enjoyed, the toungue gets bitten along with the food. There are a couple of ocasions I have accidentally bitten my teeth while chewing a fruit,or food. However, the most memmorable bite to my tongue was a result of a kick i accidentally got from a friend to my lower jaw-it caused my icissors to crush onto my tongue, it was a deep cut that had to be stitched. My tongue literally filled up my mouth and I feared it would burst out of my mouth!!It was the worst tongue injury I ever recall.
