Are you in control of your own destiny?

Do you think your destiny or ultimate life path is set in stone, so to speak or preordained? Do you feel as if there is only one right path for you to take and if you do so you will be rewarded with success and happiness? In a way, I do. And, in a way, I don't. I searched for ten years prior to becoming a mother for an alternate purpose and none revealed itself. So, perhaps being a mom is my destiny in life. I don't think of it as a cop-out or fall back job. Being a mom is not a consolation prize. It's the job that I wanted first, before anything else. And, when it did not immediately happen, I had to look elsewhere for fulfillment. Perhaps fate or whoever controls these things allowed me ten years leeway to explore my other options so that I would never think I had been cheated out of anything. For ten years, I felt as if my life were on hold waiting for something and after my daughter arrived, I knew what I had been waiting for. And, now it feels as if the windows of the world have opened up their opportunity to me. I know it doesn't work this way for everyone. But, it did seem to work out that way for me. Thinking about it now, the pieces of my life didn't start coming into place until I became a mother. All those things I wanted to do before, but lacked courage to do, are now suddenly possible. So, did becoming a mother empower me to take the leap? Or, was it something that was simply going to happen along the road of my life, my preordained destiny? Perhaps my destiny is linked to the courage and fortitude that I possess to reach out and take what is rightfully reserved for me. That's just speculation though. What do you think? Do you think your destiny is already written in stone and unchangeable so that you have to follow a preordained plan for your life? Do you think destiny is a path we take throughout life or a destination that we reach at the end of our lives? Do you feel that you have control over your destiny? Are you in the driver's seat of your own life?

I think that it is an interesting question. We can control our destiny if we are determined to. Because destiny is always in the hands of our own. But if some day we will have to pass away from this world, we would not be able to control it. It is not what we can do if God needs us to go to heaven.

So true. We do the best we can with the life we are given and the skills or education we can obtain. And, afterwards, the next step is truly out of our hands. But, even then, after this life is over, I believe we are taken care of.

Well for one I don’t think that being in the driver’s seat is the same at controlling my destiny. I am in the driver’s seat of my life, I take my own decisions, I earn my own money, have chosen my own career (OK I didn’t give it much thought), I married whom I wanted to (for good or worse), I have a single child (and want no more), I select and buy my own things…all in all, I am the master of my life. But destiny is something different. Its something that I cannot foresee. Everyday I leave home for office by the same route, the same transport. Tomorrow I may meet with an accident and be maimed forever! So inspite of being in the driver’s seat, I am not in control of my life coz my life does not mean only me and my family. There are so many external factors over which I have little control…all these shape my destiny, not me myself only. What I can do is plan within a reasonable area so that, everything else remaining the same, I can control my life as long as I live in a certain manner. Destiny may will otherwise and I have to submit to her, but its definitely in my power to plan for the unseen so that I may bear destiny better. (I am way too practical to think that destiny sometimes brings something good too!).

I am not the driver of my life. I believe that I am not in control of my destiny. I know that there already is a plan for what is going to happen in my life. It is just the choices that I make that will determine how I am going to live my life to reach my destiny.

I am kind of my control but there is time when i get a slight out of control of myself. I can tell like for some kind of arguing with anybody, i sometime get mad at it and get out of control or for like I am trying to do something for my loved one and i get so much involved with it, i lose the control

once can never find out his future. i tries that it doesnt work well from 17 years. tings happen and chage quickly so fast that you will be left wondering what is written in your life that is bound to happen. nobody can change it.so always think the good and bad things of life.that is te only alternative i feel we have today.

Heck no! At least, that's what I choose to believe. That's what's important, isn't it? Choice. I choose to believe I have control over my life and, whether I do or not, I am content to think like this. Ultimately, you have the free will to do what you want. Your destiny is linked to your actions - don't try to shift the blame or responsibility onto anybody else. Your successes are yours - and your failures are yours.

Not relly pal, how can anyone exercise any sort of control over what destiny has in store for you . It is living according to the whims and fancies of the predestined state of affairs . You are alive because it is being destined to be so .

well, you've put out a serious question for us. by the time i read your topic,i began to think about my life,my future. everyone wants be the drvier of his own life, but it is really very hard.when we were a child,we have rule to obey,we listen to our teachers or parents.when we grow up,we have other connections, like colleagues,boss......there are always sth stepped in our lives, making us feel our life is out of control. anyway,to me,it is better to do sth than just think about it.
