Do other countries think Americans are stupid?

I probably need to just log off this box, and find something else to do....but Im venting once again. Its making me feel better! :D Is your in-box full of those silly "Youve wont the UK Lottery", or "Job Position" from Nigeria, India, China, France, etc? How stupid do they think we are? Do they really think we are going to fill out their request for our personal details and send them back? I realise that some people will do this, why is beyond me, if its too good to be true then it more and likey is! HELLO!?!?!? The emails are full of spelling errors, or worded in such a way that they dont really make sense. They say they are prominent business men/women in charge of large textile companies or from National Lotteries. The only lottery I am associated with is the one where I purchase my own ticket on Saturday morning from a local merchant I can see and trust! Ive never heard of being able to play a lottery for free! Or without knowing you were playing!! Do they not keep up with all the scam alerts? Why do they continue to keep trying us? The only way you would not be aware of these types of scams if you cannot read or have no common sense what so ever. I really think that they feel Americans are stupid. Its insulting to open my email box on a daily basis and find these types of requests. xx

I don't think they think the receivers of these emails are stupid. I think they count on a very small number not reading carefully enough, or not being very net savvy. There are some people out there who are either so desperate for money, they believe the promises of the lottery, or so kind hearted they want to help that poor guy/woman/child in Nigeria. It costs them nothing to send millions of emails, and if one person falls for it, and sends a couple of thousand dollars, the scammers are happy.

OH no!! You mean I am not going to get the 50,000,000.00 I have won from various lotteries lol!!! I also find it insulting but I take the time to shoot off an e-mail to them, I let them know they can just wait for me to come pick-up my money in cash. Oh gosh, I never hear from them again....Does this mean they don't want me as a winner anymore?

Oh Kitty! lol your on the verge of winning best response for this discussion!! I like your sarcasm (smiling really big) I had a notion to email them back yesterday when I was so flustered, and tell them a thing or two about their job offer and lottery winnings. lol Thanks for the laugh, and for your reply! I got something like this in the mail just the other day. From the "British Lottery Commision" In the envelope was a check for $4990 to help pay my "fees" for my prize. This check was so realistic looking it was scary. Watermarks and everything. they wanted me to you guessed it. Cash this check and then wire them the money to cover the taxes and fees of my "prize" I couldn't help but think to myself how many people actually fall for this scam? Single mothers etc that think it is their dream come true because they could really use this money. and find theirself in a world of trouble because they just cashed a fake or stolen check. It is so ridiculous that someone can't do or WONT do anything to try to stop these people.

Hi Marcialoyd, Yes Ive gotten them in my snail mail box as well, although the letter I recieved didnt ask me to mail anything back to them, which confused me just a little bit. The letter asked me to call a number and confirm that I had recieved it, but when I did I just got a fast busy signal. I then tried to call the number on the check where it had the Citi Bank logo for New York. Couldnt get through to them either. I finally took the letter and the check to my local police department. They will place a warning in our paper, I was hoping that no one else had gotten this and wasnt too familiar with the scams out there and have a lot of trouble on their hands. Its rediculous that they KEEP trying to do this when its all over the place that they are scams. Im sure there are many people out there that are desperate and do try to cash them, they might get the money but they will have double the trouble when their bank finds out its not a real check. Thanks for replying! Bay xx

LOL Yes Im sure, I was in a bad mood this day as I recall it and they just put the icing on the cake for me. Actually since I have been threatening them with reports to my local email scam organization...lol....they have been less and less in my inbox. I think it worked! Or else they are just catching on that most of the people in the world know about this. We actually have TV commercials reflecting the exact same thing they tell us in the emails to alert people of this type of scam. I was really happy to see this. I would hate to think that someone who didnt know any better would fall for it. Bay xx
