My Diabetic Friend Cant Taste!! Need Help!

A friend of mine is a diabetic. He is usually good about keeping it under control. Well 2 weeks ago he had an episode, his sugar was SKY HIGH!! He almost Died! He spent several days in the hospital. Now everything is back to normal, sugars good, he can do what he did before the episode, Only now he cant taste anything! He said when he was in the hospital his mouth was very dry. Now he cant taste his food. The day I talked to him he said he had a blueberry cheesecake icecream cone and he mine as well got vanilla because he didnt taste a thing. This is not good cuz he needs to eat but dosent want to because he cant taste it. I was wondering if anyone knew why? Any help would be appriciated!! Thanx!
