Dear mike, want to be good parents to them.. you have to be a good friend to them first.. understand them and know their needs first and you work with it. Examples.. about their studies.. dont just tell them to take the books and study.. well not all works that way. You need to create the interest for them to study. For example, let say a kid find himself not keen in reading books or writing. Create the interest in them. Get some art block or note book and sit with them.. try to play writing contest where if he got it right he will get a reward.. tel him what is the rewards.. normally the kids likes sweets or chocolates or snack food.. give them this.. when your kids done it right give congratulate them give them a kiss or a hug and give them the rewards.. and ask them to do other words or spell something.. or read something... even the got it a bit wrong.. dont punish them but still congratulate them.. and correct them by telling them.. if you say it this way will be much more better.. and tell them.. its ok.. you are still very good and wow u know this.. and ask them.. How u know all this..? make it like you are surprised with what they do.. this way.. the kids will make them selfs wanted to show u more.. If you slowly practice this.. it will be easier and they will follow what you say..

I was a single custodial parent of my three children. The best advice is to love them and listen to them. If you listen to them they will listen to you. Keep the activities balanced. And be sure to take good care of their dad.
