do you think people spend too much on prom/homecoming?

I think many people do go over the top for prom at least. Where I went to highschool, homecoming wasn't such a big deal, but prom was. People spent more on it than anything, because it was simply where all the empahsis was placed. I don't think anyone ever really went completely off the wall for prom, but I think some people definitely did go above and beyond what others were doing and I think it's just sad really. To place that much emphasis on something that isn't such a big deal.

IMPO I don't think people spend to much. My prom which was in 1984 we got a limo, I paid $400 on my Dress, shoes and purse. I went and got my hair and makeup done and it was worth every penny, at least to me! It's a special part of high school and you should go all out for prom, graduation and senior activities.

I would say people do. Many people spend more on their prom/homecoming than on their wedding day! Nuts I tell you, nuts! I remember talking to one girl in Florida that she had to spend over 200 dollars on the ticket alone to go.

I remember once when I was shopping for my wedding dress, there was a girl shopping for her graduation dress in the store (graduation is the equivalent of prom in our area). She was being so rude to her mom (which was paying for everything), and demanding that the mom by her all sorts of stuff. She picked out a $500 dress (which still needed alterations), fancy jewellery, gloves, and shoes. By the time all was said and done, her outfit was around $1000. That's close to what I paid on my wedding dress!!!! Add to that hair and makeup, limos, after party outfits, and party tickets - and you've got a huge bill! It's definitely getting out of control!!!!!

I actually never went to either of those. My mom kept saying I'd regret it I'd regret it...7 years later...I don't regret it.
