Should size zero models be banned?

Should models under the age of 16 or who are size zero be banned from the catwalk? The Independent Model Health Inquiry has published its final report into ways of protecting models. The inquiry, commissioned ahead of London fashion week has already called for under-16s to be banned from the catwalk. It recommended that agencies should regularly get models checked for eating disorders and has also introduced a new no-smoking in the workplace policy in wake of the smoking ban. Is the industry doing enough? How should young models be protected from issues surrounding size and health? Does there need to more education and support surrounding the issues?

actually, the problem is not really with the models but with the mindset of the society that demands those kinds of looks and figures. there wouldn't be models like that if there is no demand for it. the plus size models of today came about because plus size women are clamoring for designer clothings of their sizes. and thus came the demand for product endorsers. if we (general term) do not fantasize about those kinds of women, we also wouldn't have those kinds of models. don't you think?

My friend was a size zero when she was younger. Not because she wanted to be a model, that is what size she was. It would not be fair to ban a person just because of their size. There are plus size models and no one is talking about banning them. Because it is up to the person as an individual to be who they want to be. To ban someone because of their size is discrimination.

Not everyone who is size 0 though is going to be unhealthy, it really depends on the individual. Yes, some people who are size 0 starve themselves to be that way, but there are plenty of people out there who are naturally slim/skinny. I definitely think that under 16s should be banned though, there's just something weird about seeing really young girls modelling clothes on the catwalk in my opinion. I dunno, it just doesn't look right to me - you can tell they are kids wearing loads of make-up and fancy clothes and it just looks odd I reckon. Plus I can imagine the pressure they are put under to look good.

I don't think that they should be banned. I think anyone under the age of 16 should be having a parent looking out for them. This is what a parent is for. The older ones are adults and should be looking out for themselves as responsible individuals. I don't think it is the industry's responsibility to look for those who have eating disorders and those who don't. This is a health issue and each individual person should be regulating their own health themselves.
