Why do we refer to God as a he?

I find it strange that God is always seen as male? Nature on the other hand is seen as female (Mother Earth). I think we just extrapolate our ("Middle Eastern") patriarchal worldviews to God. Before the rise of the Three Middle Eastern relgions, I believe we had a matriarchal worldview which would explain why we say Mother Earth.

As for Chrstians The name we mostly translate as God from our bible is from the hebrew word 'Elohim" (El-o-heem) and is actualy #1 plural, and #2 feminen. But becouse of the covanent name of God (YHVH) wich we get Yahweh, Yahveh and Yahovah (Jehovah) is masculin. Put a letter SHIN (sh) in the middle we get 'YHSVH' Yahshuvah or Jashuah = Jesus.

I didn't quite understand the jump from Elohim to Yaweh. It's interesting that it was plural and feminen.

thank you for giviing me more info on this about the Elohim. I have learned thiis but am still reading to learn more. The word is used differently by the Christian faith. So, may I ask, are the Elohim femiinine Goddesses or more along the lines of the Christian angels? Also, is there not a male form of the word? I admit that too muuch reading and listening to theologians leaves me a bit muddles sometimes lol, too much info.

The masculin form of this word is 'El' and is singular another singular would be Elohi, And Elohim even though plural was always thought of as singular. this is were the God names come in, the constructs of El and Elohim- ie El-Shadai, and so on. This is also why Mosos said "here oh Isrial, the Lord thy God, the Lord is one."( Shma Yesrial, Adonie Elohino, Adonie achad) Becouse some began to worship Elohim as Gods and not one supream being. and infackt some accuse Christians now of worshipping three Gods becouse of another unity God form of the trinity. (the Father ,Son And Holy Spirit)The concepy is that God has many aspects and shows himself in many ways, but is oine intaty. ie, My son calls me dad, my wife calls me sweethart, my freinds calme ________ and my Mom calls me son, but yet I am one person.

I think God is more of a masculine idea with power and might, judgement and mercy while MOther Nature is more femimine. With the peace, silence, nurturing aspect.
