I'm running out of pills OMG!

I just started taking my anti-depressants again and knew that I was running out. So, today I decided to call in a refill and just as the pharmacist answered, I noticed there were no refills listed. Instead of hanging up, I asked her if there are refills, she said there aren't any and that my doctor won't do refills over the phone (which I already knew). I thanked her and hung up. Should I keep taking them while I wait for an appointment with my doctor or just stop in case he prescribes something else.

It's very important to continue taking the medication unless instructed by your doctor. If you abruptly discontinue antidepressant, you may experience terrible withdrawal symptoms. I hope you can see your doc early enough before you really run out the med. Good luck.

The weird thing is, I did stop a few months ago because I was feeling really great but then I realized I should get back on it before things get bad and that's when I realized I was running out.

Do you think he'll prescribe something else? Anyway, it's my opinion that you should continue taking the pills you have. It is possible to switch over later after your appointment. Good luck with that!

Keep taking them. It's not safe to stop medication on your own. You should always continue taking any medications you just as directed to on the bottle or by your doctor. When you wish to stop a medication, you should always talk to your doctor first about the best and safest way to do so.

No, it's not. Because for the pills to continue working, you need to continue taking them for as long as you want them to work. I hope you get better at that, I wouldn't want you getting hurt.

Thanks Talisman. I'll keep working at improving this bad habit.

That's one of my problems with medications. Once I feel better I just stop taking them and it's not too smart of me to do that.

You really need to keep taking them (I know everyone else is telling you that too). Sometimes if you run out, the pharmacist can give you enough to carry you over until the doctor can get you a new prescription, you just have to ask. They may not, but it may be worth asking. I've been on my medication for years, and I know how awful it can be to go without it. Good luck, and let us know how it's going.

The answer was no. It may be that the doctor doesn't want me on them except when I start exhibiting symptoms. I'm speculating but I'll find out either way for sure from the doctor. Of course I'll keep you posted.

just call the doctor and tell them your concern..he will answer the information you want to hear..if he will not even answer this simmple request..then change doctors as they are not servicing you the way you should be treated...doctors are not God and do not always think of your problems..remind them you are the patient (customer) and that you have rights too...you have a right to your records..(copies) and review the treatment plan you are under...you have to be more assertive in your treatment plan.. Most of the time the doctor is not aware of your concerns ...you must let him know your problem and don't let some receptionist lack of knowledge deter you...they are there just to answer the phone...they have to forward your concern to the doctor...this is not a light matter...if you just stop taking your prescription on your own...you will be the one to suffer...not them

I would keep taking the pills, and try to get a doctors appointment as soon as possible. Let the doctor's office know that you are running low on medication, and have no refills, so you need a appointment at their earliest opening. Then you can discuss with your doctor if you should keep taking the same medication, or switch to something else.

So far I don't really need to take it but I am just in case. I just don't want to get stuck when my S.A.D. hits full force without any meds. I'm working on an appointment quick. Weird how lack of sun can make a person freak out!

Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle depression.
