My wife has meet an aged couple who owns an entire colony (!) of cats in their farm. They are very lucky in our opinion. But they have a lot of burocracy to face each year.

I have two and that's enough for me, cats are territorial anyway and having more than one cat in the home causes problems let alone whole colonies. My two cats fight sometimes it must be a nightmare if you have lots of cats all fighting with each other.

I have 6 at the moment and I think that's more than enough right now. Thankfully they all get along pretty well. The girls (4 of them) are more scrappy than the boys are which I didn't expect. I always said that once my 'six pack' was complete I'd be done.

As long as you can care for your cats the number of them should not matter. Each town or city has their own ordanaces but as long as the cats are healthy and not a nucances most place will not say anything unless a complaint is made. If you love animals and are willing to take care of them then you should be able to. The max cats we've had is 18 and we had them all fixed not one was ferral. They have thined out due to old age they usually live to be 18-21 years old and that is old for a cat. In a perfect world I would have a huge farm/ animal preserve so that I could help all animals that need it.

I guess 3 cats are the maximum I can own. My husband said absolutely no more animals are to brought into this house. I think he really meant it to.

Two cats are enough for me I do not want anymore than that. I feel we need to spay and neurter our pets so we do not have so many unwanted pets. I am sure the couple you are talking about got the cats from shelters. For me two is enough.
