IAm only 25 adn my little girl has recently started full time school. I have to say that the way they teach now has changed so much since I was at school. At the moment I can keep ahead of the changes, but I do worry taht as she grows older she will surpass me and I willnot be able to help her. I know a few people have also woried about this. My freinds son came back from school the other day with a maths problem and his mom helped him to work it out, when he returned the next day upset it was becasue although the answer was correct the way his mom had showed him to get the answer was different to the method used nowadays, I dont see what the problem was as he got to the right answer, but on teh other hand if this is how the children are to be taught surely it would be easier to send home an example so that parents can at least know which method is being used. ALso my daughter came home the other day with a reading book, the mad thing about it was it had no words in it, I was quite shocked at this as they sent home a book for me to report on how well she was doing each day with the book. I now knwo that after speaking to the teacher that the book is used as a guideline fro the children to familiarise themselves and use their imagination to make up the story according to the pictures, but surely it woudl have been easier to explain this beforehand to us parents? OK enough moaning from me, but have any of you had similar problems?

As a first grade teacher I have to agree, it is important to advise the parents of what is being taught! It is usually covered at the orientation for parents or the parent manual. Sometimes the lines of communication are crossed before we can address a situation! studying with your child and listening to him or her will provide you with the correct way to complete a problem.
