We recently added two parakeets to our family and I am looking for help from current parakeet owners on the best toys for them, and where to get them - including both online sources and traditional brick and mortar stores. Thanks.

Our parakeet has a cuddle bone she regularly uses. Not a toy, but important to keep her beak worn down. She likes mirrors. She also likes the mirrors with little balls that will slides across in front of the mirror. She plays with them all the time. I got them at walmart. We also have special sandpaper made to go around her perch. It keeps her nails from getting too long. It doesn't hurt her feet and it's easier than holding her and trying to trim them with toenail clippers! She's a happy little thing - sings and chirps everyday. It was annoying at first, but now I find it enjoyable. She's always so happy!

Hi Melanie. Our birds love the cuttlebone, as well as mirrors and I have found they also really love to ding bells. Yes, they do sing a wonderful song when happy. Silent birds mean either sleeping or unhappy birds. We love our parakeets. We have some natural hickory perches and they seem to peck on that well for beak trimming. Haven't used the sandpaper covers due to the organic nature of the branches. Thanks for responding. Have you ever used the colored wood chew toy things? I've been wary thinking they must use some ucky chemicals to get those colors in there.

I strongly recommend using corn husks, my bids love chewing on them...make sure you get the ones from the supermarket...they are usually seen in bags in mexican stores used to make tamales...my birds also enjoy playing with bird toys made out of soft plastics such as rubber and such.
