Insensitive Mailing

I received something in my mail yeaterday that horrified me. There was this message on one side in big, bold lettering: When Is Your Death Date? I flipped it over and saw that it was from a local cemetery. Now, I thought that this was in the poorest of taste. I asked myself, "When did cemetery owners start actively seeking out customers?" I made a decision right then and there. When my time does come I would not wish to buried in this cemetery under any circumstances.

It was not sent in an email, gabs, but through the regular postal service. I am going to ask around and see if anyone else has received anything like it.

That was in poor taste. Why would they do that?

I guess the reason, Aurone, is that competition is getting tough and they are turning into something like ambulance chasers.

I didn't get a piece of mail I got a telephone call from a local cemetery! Here was this young sounding woman with one of those really "perky" voices telling me that we "never know when our number will come up" and wouldn't it be nice to take care of where we'll be spending all of eternity now, while it's being offered at a huge discount? I told her we already had a family plot and I wasn't interested so she asked if I had any friends I could refer. Like you I have one placed crossed off my own list! Tasteless for sure! Annie

Absolutely, anniepa! People should have enough common sense to know that some things are just too sensitive to spring on a person.

The worse ones are the ones that call on the telephone to sell you a casket or a plot. I know that if I want a casket or a cemetary plot I will go to the appropiate place to get one. I don't need them calling me.

Don't they say it is the only business that is never hit by recession? I certainly don't think I would want to receive such a mail and would be quite shocked to receive it! xxx

Evidently this ehem.. company has fallen on hard times and are trying to recruit so to speak, new customers. Very tacky and in very poor taste from the sounds of the mailing, but some people just don't have a lick of common sense in them when it comes to that type of stuff. I don't blame you for turning the other way and deciding to choose another place to deal with when you are ready to do your planning...I would too! Something's just can not be overlooked. As for how you ended up on their mailing list, they probably just started going through the phone book and writing down addresses. Or maybe from a community program that keeps a list to send out for charity stuff. They seem to get away with giving out people's name's a lot easier that some companies do.
