How to quit smoking?

September 26, 2007 3:21am CST
Hey all, I know in other posts that I said I wasnt ready to quit yet but I find that events in my life have forced that upon me slightly faster than I thought. I am trying out for the University Officer Training Corps which is attatched to the local territorial army regiment and the regimental sergeant major has said I need to quit smoking because otherwise I'll just end up with breathing problems while training. I've looked at some websites like the NHS stop smoking website and its given me some ideas as to how to quit ( I smoke 20 a day by the way lol) but I was hoping you guys would share your experiences with stopping smoking so that maybe I could get one or two ideas that I can use myself. Is it hard to stop smoking? are the cravings for it as bad as i've been told? what can i do to distract myself if I want one? Any reply is gratefully appreciated!

Ok im sorry, I dont quite understand the point your making here. Are you saying that you tried it and didnt like it and are wondering how I can stand the taste? If thats the case then, I dont actually 'taste' it any more. I've been smoking since I was 9 and im 26 now so thats a long time and to be honest I do it out of habit more than any actual enjoyment of it. The 'taste' of smoking isnt there any more for me because of smoking so long. I'm sure that the smell and taste of smoke is much more annoying to others than it is to me.

Thats a good thought that you need to start quitting smoking. And I know it is very hard because it is like quitting to our addiction to our favorite food. If you want to succeed you need to prepare your self and mind. If you don't prepare your mind and body you feel to your self a weak feeling.
