How long does "flea dirt" hang around?

It has been 2 weeks since we treated for fleas. We haven't seen a flea in about a week and a half. I have noticed that one of the cats still leaves "flea dirt" when she sits down. Not all the time, but every now and again. Since they aren't scratching and we have not seen any fleas, I am assuming they are gone. How long does it take for the dander to go away?
