Why do people go to hospital when it is already late?

For all we know hospital is considered to be the place where people cure and prevent some illnessess. The fact that people goes to hospital when it is already late or the sick person is already at a serious stage really makes me confused.
Isn't it better to go to hospital when you already feeling quite unwell or something like that?
Why do you think people go to hospital when they are almost dying?

i dont think it applies to everybody. for me and my family if we dont feel Good we go to our family doctor and not straight to the hospital. so if our family doctor says it is okay to drink medicine then we just have to be at home and rest. if he adviced that we need to be at the hospital then we do as he says.
but for some other people, we can not blame them for hospital is very expensive. so sometimes people go there when there is no more of a choice.

well it doesnt apply to everybody. not all sickness is accepted by the hospital. and of course not all can really afford hospitalization.
