Talking about Gas (from Your Behind)

Is farting in public considered an embarrassing or taboo thing in your country? Do you find it "impossible" to fart in front of others, even your close friends and family? I know one of my friends who can't do that in front of friends (she says it's impolite) and she can only do that in front of her family. My belly is often gassy, especially in Finland, this cold country. I have one funny story about this particular gas. When I first moved here to be with my hubby, we were still being polite to each other. One time we just got onto bed and we were preparing to sleep when he farted SO loudly. We were already under our blanket by then. Since he was ashamed of himself, he tried to do what he thought to be a good thing: he waved the blanket to "get rid" of the smell. Instead, the very action made the smell waft to our very own nostrils. In the end we were giggling like crazy as it was just SO funny. After a few minutes, I managed to calm down enough to say, "Don't EVER EVER do such a thing again, OK? I know you meant well, but the very act only made it worse!" We laughed again before we finally got tired enough to sleep. ;-D How about you? Any funny experiences about this particular gas?

Hello ailema4ever, Farting in public is considered an embarrassing experience here in my country. I think it is the same in Indonesia too, isn't it? My husband has a funny act whenever he wants to release that special gas. If he is sitting right next to me, he will go to somewhere else and release the very nice smelly gas, far away from being heard of others *laughs* I have no funny experience about releasing the gas in public but I would like to share the story that happened between my husband and I. When we first get married, we also tried to be as polite as we could be. When we want to fart, we will tell our spouse, "Excuse me, Dear! I want to have a 'special business' right now!" with those pampered looking face and a blink *laughs* Both of us understood the statement! But when I was pregnant, I would fart easily and sometimes during sleeping time! My husband would tell me in the morning that I did that special business while I was sleeping! No more embarrassing face and feeling guilty anymore after that!

Hi, gr8life!!! HE HE HE...Yeah, it's the same as in Indo, as well. ;-D It's VERY polite of your hubby to do such a thing. ;-D HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...yeah, I know what you mean about being polite when you first got married. For us, it didn't last that long, though...after a few weeks, we started farting near each other, unless if we knew it would be so smelly, then we'd go away from each other before doing that he he he he he he he...;-D THX for sharing your funny story, though! ;-D You make me laugh he he he...

Hello ailema4ever, OK, I was in a hurry (to go home) when I responded to you yesterday (because of that response, I was late for 5 minutes to punch my card *laughs*) Lets continue ... hehehe... It is very lucky that my husband's gas doesn't smell bad but definitely it sounds great! He doesn't feel good to fart in front of other people including his wife. As for me, after few years with him, I bet there is no more shameful feeling left *laughs* The best part is that my son who is 14 months now, gets 'that special gene' from me (Maybe I 'love' to fart when I was pregnant that after giving birth, he also love to fart too *smiles* - but it sounds so so cute to me *laughs*) My husband always blame me for that. But the wonderful experience is that, whenever my son farts and we tell him that he farts, he seems to understand and giggles ...so so cute! End of the story! *laughs*

Hi ailema4ever! Oh, it is not really a taboo thing although it may be embarrassing to do such when in public. But I guess, even it may be embarrassing it is still a natural thing to do and everyone does it. haha..We will just end up giggling or laughing about it afterwards anyway. haha..Take care and have a nice day.

I'm in Canada, and farting isn't "taboo" here, but it is considered rude and gross to do it in public. I will do it in public though if I have to, but I always look around me first to make sure no one is around, lol. When I'm around friends I always let 'em rip, lmao. Mine tend to be very musical but non-smelly, so it's just entertainment for anyone within earshot, lolol.

Ive only encountered ppl my parents age complaining about farts, and ppl that either, dont like you or need to up themselves over you. Neither person is someone I socialize with for very long. Farting is a natural thing, and Im pretty proud of them when they make a sound, and sad when they do the rare smellbomb thing. There is only one kind of farting I dont like, the smelly sneaker. At least announce who to laugh and complain to. Have the decency to say who's green cloud youre sniffing :D Truely though, there is eticette attached to farting, as well as for speaking and other things. But as long as you know common curtesy, a fart is just a natural release of the body, and I can for the life of me see anything shamefull about it Are you too ashamed to poo and pee as well? One of them gals that dont go number two when visiting a boy you like?

Yeah, that's true, Bunsdk. Farting is indeed a natural thing and yes, knowing common courtesy is indeed good. ;-D And no, I'm not ashamed to poo or pee, even in somebody else's house as long as I excuse myself first he he he...

I don't really care to fart when I am just around my family. Here in our house, it seems like a casual thing for me and hubby but every time either of us fart especially if its too loud we just make a laugh. One time, hubby and I was talking about this subject. I told him, you know what, before my cousins and my family told me that if you fart silently then better inform the people around you because it means your fart smells very stinky and when it's loud enough to be heard by everyone, it doesn't smell at all. After he heard that, he burst to laughter and all of a sudden I smell the stinky odor. I asked him, "baby, did you fart?" He said, yes. He smiled and said I guess you are right. I wish I listened to you so I was able to warned you. Then, I laughed. He asked me why. I said, "baby, it was only a conclusion made by us since it applies to us and it doesn't mean it will apply to everyone. However, if you will believe in it, well there's no harm anyway". Well, it maybe a coincidence but I guess it's always the case as I observed. When your fart is loud it doesn't smell but if you won't hear it (silent) it stinks!*wink* I tried also giving a loud fart infront of my friends and it produced much laughter. I had a stomach disorder that time.

Hi, Marie, yes, after a while my hubby and I fart whenever we feel like it he he he... Actually, interestingly, hubby and I also had a similar discussion like you had with your hubby, but reality's proven us that it wasn't a correct observation after all, since sometimes my fart gets REALLY stinky when it's loud he he he he...

ha ha... fart is such a topic that brings out laugh. Well there is nothing like a taboo or anything but yes farting is not considered as a decent sign. one must try and not fart loud or when with many people... i mam myself laughing at my own comments... well in our case, since childhood this has been our topic of discussion and laughter... we even use to swear each other as farter... now i know that brings a laugh out of you. hope its not bringing a fart :))

Hi hi hi...Glad you manage to laugh, Ragini. I'm smiling as well, but gladly not farting. But hey, even if I'm farting right now, you can't smell it, so you're SAFE. LOL LOL LOL!!!

I find it to be embarrassing for me. I don't now about it being taboo or not here in America, but for me as a person, I can't do that in public. I will wait to go to the bathroom in privacy or until I get home. Sometimes even my stomach hurts from trying to keep it in. At home is different. We all fart at home in comfort hahaha! My daughter played a very mean trick on me once. She farted under the blanket on the couch and left it there, I lifted the blanket and oh, it was terrible! She was hiding behind the couch and laughed so hard, what a terrible trick I said! We both laughed though.

Mamasan, I also do it like you do...when I'm in public or in my in-laws' house and I feel the urge to fart, I'll go to the bathroom to do it he he he...But yeah, it does suck to hold the gas inside 'coz then your stomach feels painful. YIKES!!! Your daughter once did that trick?!?!?!?! Oh dear...naughty girl he he he he he...
