Watching the Today Show on Wednesday morning Oct 3, 2007. A segment on young men having vecsctomies was discussed. A guy at the age of 28 decided to have a vecetomy, because he does not want to have children at all. According to the segement this is a growing trend amongst young men between the ages of 25-36. I recently thought of having this procedure done. I am married and have two loving small children. One five years old son and one six month old daughter. I have an appointment in December to see the urologist, to discuss the procedure. At this time my wife and I are struggling to make ends meet, and I am concerned that if we take chances and not be careful being intimate. We may bring another child into the picture that we can not afford. Here is the crux of this post, If the US government decided to implement a national population control policy, where couples, males and females would be paid a monthly payment of $1,300.00 to have a procedure done where they could no longer have children. Would you sign-up for this program. Knowing that you will not be able to have children, whether you already have them or not. Please send serious replies to this post. Thank You

It is scary to think how far the government could go to enforce this policy. If you give them too much power they take it and run. And who would be paying for this to be done-we as taxpayers? The price you are suggesting would be awful high for people to be paying out. I know that we pay for all of those people on welfare already but we would still be paying for those people, in addition to this new group. I also think that too many people would do it without thinking it over enough. There would need to be strict policies about it- like being a certain age, already having a certain amount of children. Otherwise the government could end up with an underpopulated country which would hurt the future aging population or we could end up with a lot of people who would try to sue the government because they made it seem like a good idea at the time but now they regret having the procedure done. My boyfriend and I have 3 kids (almost) and he has decided that he is totally done. He will be getting fixed sometime soon...I think. It would be nice to think that we could get money from choosing to not bring any more children into the world since we are done but there would be a lot of kinks to work out (like how much it would cost us to get that money) before implementing such a program. Then i say, "sign us up!"

I sure would! I never want children, not because I loathe them; they're just not for me nor my partner. You really struck a chord with me when you said if the government would institute a population control policy. I thenk that is a splended idea. Thanks for such a great, great topic.
