If you observe the way the matches are played today, the top scores has increased drastically. It was in the World Cup 1996 when Sri lankan team started blasting every team. Specifically Sanath Jayasurya who use to make very quick start with some great shots. I think it is the Sri Lankans who set the "fast track game" before the world. They have shown the entier new way of playing cricket. The recent world cup 20-20 is nothing but seems to be first 15 overs of world cup 1996.

Ofcourse it's srilankans who hit each and every team in worldcup but it was started by sachin who told that we have t oscore in first 20 overs as only 2 will be there outside the circle and it will be difficult for them to manage.It's not srilanka who start it first but it's sachin.
