Wow, blueboy, $4.00 in the Virgin Islands? So it pays to live in luxury, eh? ;) Most expensive places by far right now in the States are there, SoCal, and Chicago. I was up in Chicago this past August and penned down $3.50 as the average for a gallon of Unleaded! Here in Houston, TX, (lucky that we're so close to the ports, that it's cheaper, apparently) the gas median is $2.55-2.60 for a gallon of Unleaded. But, it will ALL be going up soon: http://mylot.com/w/discussions/1309462.aspx

I live in the southern US and gas prices have been around $2.62. That's still high for us because the income level here isn't that great.

I live in southern California, and the lowest price in my area is about 2.87, most expensive around 3, 3.25. It's just really ridiculous how much money these companies are making overcharging everyone. I guess it was better than earlier this year, when the price of gas around here was over $4!
