Okay I have $110 budgeted into my budget for two weeks worth of groceries...This is for a family of 5. Very Very Scary... he he...(don't worry we won't go hungry). I am just trying to figure a way to save some dollars... so I was wondering what you would buy if you had $110 to spend. I have an ample amount of potatoes and rice, green peppers, onions.

Well potatoes are great because you can make chips, mash, roasters, potatoe wedges etc so that's a great starting point. $110 is about £55, yes? For 2 weeks I can imagine that would be a bit of a push. Green Peppers and onions would do you a lot of stew type meals. Like Casseroles and lobby (not sure if that last one is REALLY British!!) I think that a trip to the butchers is always a great idea, fill your freezer full of mince meat because with a tin of tomatoes, you can make spag bol, chilli, lasagne, Shepherds pie (Mince in a gravy with mash potatoe cooked on top), burgers and meatballs can be 100% beef/lamb anyway. And then you're gonna need to make sure you've got some veg in. Carrots I think go great with everything. Broccoli, CauliFlour. I'm not sure if i've gone over the budget now. I recommend that you have a look on the net for some recipes. I am sure many things would overlap so you wouldn't need to write down every ingredient on your shopping list. I've just started living by a budget but am still eating £15 per week ($30) and I'm struggling with that. Hope I helped. If not, sorry. x

Yes you were a help...my husband is a meat kind of guy..If i have potato, veggie and meat chances are he won't touch the potato or the veggie, he eats just the meat! Like tonight for supper I made corn chowder with biscuits and beet hash...and it cost me absolutely nothing....I had the potato and the cream corn and the milk my dad gave me because he cannot drink a whole gallon at one time but the price for two quarts is almost as much as the gallon so he buys the gallon and gives me half..(very nice papa). The potatoes came from my son who went and picked in the fields picking up left over potatoes after the machines went through.. He picked close to 200 lbs..(good boy). The beets came from my dad's garden...so I have access to alot of these meals...so like you stated I think my best bet is to head to the butcher shop...
