Situation With Turkey

Well, here we go again! Now it seems that we have gone and offended Turkey. What I don't understand is how a nation such as America that prides itself on always being so concerned about politically correct, can attract so many enemies. There must be a reason for the passage of the genocide bill that sparked this latest diplomatic crisis. I have my suspicions as to why it was done at this point in time. I feel that since we had waited a hundred years to pass this bill, it could have waited a bit longer until things calm down in that part of the world. ABC News's site has an in-depth look at this story.

I have my suspicions as well, considering that Turkish airspace is a major supply route for our troops in Iraq. The genocide that is referenced in this bill is debatable as to whether or not those deaths were actually genocide, and I can't help but wonder if the timing is not for political purposes as a statement against the war and as a way to make it harder on our troops to get supplies. At any rate, it is not a good stance to be taking at the present time.

Yes, Destiny, I believe it will all serve to add more fuel to the fire that is already burning out of control in that part of the world.

Some of this stuff is simply common sense. This supposed genocide took place under the Ottoman Empire, which no longer exists, and therefore is not applicable to modern Turkey even if it is true. So why cause needless problems between us and our allies?
