cold water burns calories

I've read about this one. Drinking chilled water helps you burn off calories. And hot water pretty much do the same thing to our body. This is explained by simple thermodynamics principle that the body consumes energy to lower or increase the temperature of the water thus burning calories. Though it is not that much, it still helps to get rid of few calories. I hope it works the same way on ice cream and diet soda. But ofcourse it works better using water coz water contains zero calories. Just don't try to overdrink water coz it can kill you to drink too much at once. And drink chilled water at the right time only because not only it would give you a bad brain freeze, it can also impair mental performance if you drank cold water when you're not really thirsty(as what I've read in a medical magazine). Brain freeze is bad for people with heart problems. Ofcourse exercise is still the best way to burn calories, and a glass of cold water is the best refreshment after a good work-out, that would double the burning power.

I've heard of drinking cold water to help burn off calories. However, some of the things you mentioned I had never heard before. I did not know that brain freeze is bad for people with heart problems, for instance. I will definitely try drinking cold water after I exercise, and see if that helps my efforts at losing weight. Thanks for all the information!

I wonder if drinking hot water after exercise would have the same effect?

after exercise, cold water is still best because when you exercise you sweat and lose a lot of fluids so you need to replace it immediately by drinking cold water(or cold gatorade or any sports drink). cold water is more rapidly absorbed in the stomach than hot water. and the temperature of the body after exercise is high so you would most probably want to cool it down by drinking cold water not by drinking hot water. well that's how i would explain it.

I agree. Drinking water will also help if it is a substitute for soda since it has no calories. It will also help by flushing toxic things out of your system. They say you should drink 6 to 8 glasses of water per day to be healthy.
