Does This Ever Happen To You?

Several months ago I had some extra money to fool around with and decided to stock up on shoes...now I normally am not a clothes or shoes shopping person, but since I had that extra money decided to splurge a bit..this was a little before summer and the only pair of sandals was going to literally fall apart anyway...So there are several stores near me, and they had those deals buy one pair, get second at half off...so I wound up buying four pairs of sandals, plus I had some money left over and got two pairs of sneakers/running shoes at a real bargain Okay..so all along, I've been wearing my sandals..but now it's chilly and figured, all right, time to try the sneakers/running shoes..I do have the one old pair and they're ready to fall apart. However..what's frustrating is that when I went to try on the sneakers again to get used to them...uh, they just didn't feel as comfortable as they did when I tried them on month ago...Like what happened? They felt fine then..so now that so many months have passed I obviously can't take them back and get a refund or exchange..so I'm stuck with them..I'm still hoping to break them in though. So the question is..has this happened to you? You tried some article of clothing..especially shoes and they felt great or looked great when you tried them..but then when you went to wear them after a time lapse they just didn't fit well or weren't that comfortable??

My sister used to wear sandels all the time & her feet got so wide she had a horrible time getting into shoes when winter rolled around. Fortunately we live in Texas & seldom need to wear closed shoes.

You kind of have to retrain your feet to the shoes. Put them on in the morning (when your feet are at their smallest) and tie them tight - then after a little bit loosen them. Then go back to the sandals for the rest of the day. Just keep after it & hopefully by the cold of winter you'll be back in shoes full time.

Pye this has happened to me on more than one occassion. If the store is willing, I would call them and ask them about trading them in for something else. It would be obvious to them that you had not worn them. If they balk about it, you might try to give them to someone as a gift or trade them to someone for something else, or sell them at a discount, or hey even on ebay. I wish you luck with this. I usually do this with sale clothing. Then I get it out weeks or months later and I tell myself, what were you thinking :)

that usually does happen with shoes with me. i think sometimes my feet swell from being on them then they don't fit quite as well the next time. i do have these shoe widener things that seem to help tho-makes them just stretched enough to stop that.

I had a couple of pairs of shoes that I gave away for this exact reason. It is frustrating, especially considering how tight money is around here (I think you have us beat by a hair on lack of budget, but not by much). My last item that was uncomfortable was a T-shirt. It kept bunching up at the armpit. Quite distracting when I was trying to type. It went to GoodWill.

What's really frustrating is like you at the moment I can't just rush out and get another pair that might be comfortable to wear..and no way am I going the Nike or Addidas route...At the time I actually could have bought such a pair..but when I saw the prices...no way!

Well, stuff like that happened to me all the time, but I guess does not have to do with the sneakers... At least what happened to me is that my feet get so used to the sandals, which is almost being barefoot... that when you go back to shoes it does feel unconfortable... think about it...

True...I've been wearing sandals all late spring and summer long...and it is like barefoot...not a big fan of closed shoes anyway

So I guess you will have to start using closed shoes, and get use to it, before you can decide if those new sneakers are confy or not...

Yes it has happened to me before too. With both clothes and with shoes. I usually keep trying a couple of times. I would if I were since they are tennis shoes and you've been use to wearing sandals (which I find to be much more comfortable). If not - there is always ebay :)

Well I'm back to wearing my old, nearly falling apart sneakers thinking maybe if my feet get used to the closed shoes again, I'll be able to fit in the others.

This happens to me all the time. It seems it depends on the air pressure. Like I bought a pair of sandals and deck shoes here in Winnipeg, and then when we went to Vancouver and went on the ship, my deck shoes rubbed against my ankles and I bled. As for the sandals, I could not stand the back of them on my ankles. However when I came back to Winnipeg, I could wear the sandals after my feet heeled. Also your feet swell during the day and so it is better to try them on in the afternoon, rather in the morning.

That's just it...I did try on the shoes in the afternoon, and not morning...

That really stinks, because I know that retailers will not refund shoes that have been worn outside. If you wear the only inside the house, they will refund. I'm glad you got the great bargains, it's so much fun to find a good one, and even better when you like the selection. You shouldn't need shoes for a long while. haha.

I think we've all experienced this kind of thing, pyewacket. I have done so a few times. I think the problem is that we don't realize that our feet change the same way our bodies do. The shoes not fitting properly could be a result of that. Or, it could be that you didn't walk around in them enough to really get the feel of them. If it were me, I would try them on at different times of the day because I have heard that our feet change during the course of the day also.

Well I'm not giving up on the shoes... I just don't have the money now to get new ones again...So I just maybe wear them around the house to stretch them

Yes it just happened to me in the beginning of the fall.I wanted a pair of boots with a heal and tried on a pair and WOW i loved them.I put them away in the box and threw the sales receipt away not thinking that i would ever not like them.Last wek i went to put them on and i think they are the most ugliest and uncomfortable pair of boots ive ever see, haha.I have one foot bigger than the other and the right boot is too tight for me,so i know my mom would like them and shes been hinting for a pair like this(she doesnt know i have them),so im giving her a gift!Hahaha.Even shirts,im a shirt collector and after getting one i forget about it and dont wear it or it just does not look the same as when i tried it on in the store,so my mom gets all the leftys that i dont want and she loves it.She does not have to spend money that she does not have.:)

Hi pyewacket! Yes, they always seem to fit better when you're in the store! I too am guilty of buying shoes that don't fit after the purchase has been made. I've gone so far as to wash these shoes in cold water, then wear them while they're wet with the hope that they'll stretch out! A few times it actually worked! My most costly shoe mistake was when I bought a pair of Doc Martin boots. I'd been saving money for a good year to purchase them and in my excitement I didn't feel the toe pinch. That was about 8 years ago. Since they're leather I can't put them in the washing machine so I've been trying to figure out a way to stretch them a measly 1/2 inch. I've also heard that if you stick potato peelings in shoes they'll stretch. I haven't tried this but in the event that you do, let me know how it turns out(:

Yeah, that has happened to me before with shoes. A slight weather change makes my feet swell a tiny bit, and it throws off how my shoes fit. I just read a tip online on how to break in new shoes. They say to put baby lotion, not baby oil, but baby lotion, inside the shoes, and leave them overnight. Apparently it works.

I think because I wore loose comfortable sandals all these months my feet must have spread out a bit..that's not a bad idea about the lotion..might give it a go :)

Well the closest I get to that is I have to "break in " my walking shoes.I try them on . They fit but I still have to walk in them to make them comfortable. It takes about 2 weeks. So But the shoes on and walk around in them. You'll get used to them.

Absolutely its happened! I hate shoe shopping anyway - I can wear size seven length but the width brings me up to eight and half - which means when the shoe finally stetches - all shoes do - its too big. Now of course, my size is well I don't know - since being pregnant nothing fits! Anyway, going shopping for shoes - I might finally find something that fits great - then I walk in it and get blisters. OR it doesn't fit. Too small or big. Really it depends on the time a day - I bet feet swell by the afternoon I don't know.

Yuk I hate when I get blisters...Now some of the sandals I had gotten were real cheapie ones, but I had also gotten a few Dr. Scholl's ones..guess which ones I got blisters from? :(

Hi pyewacket! Oh, it happened with me before but not with the shoes. I found a great bargain shop before selling so many clothes and shirts, I fell in love right away with a dress and I tried it in the dressing room. It fits well and looks good on me..however, i didn't wear the dress for about two months because I was saving it for a very special occasion. So, two days before the said occasion, I tried it again...and goodness..it didn't fit me anymore and it does not look good on me. I realized that I added some extra pounds and took for granted that the dress is something that really hugs and clings at your figure. So, I just let it go and just looked for some old dress which does clings loosely on my body. Take care and have a nice day.

This has happened to me before with ties and shirts, when I see them in the stores I just have to have them and later on they just don't look like the match as well as they did in the store and I don't like to wear them because i can't seem to find a match for them.
