"Gem" state Idaho

Idaho is called the Gem state, but are there actually mines or places where gems can still be found?
where the public can go and dig at?
I've always wanted to go dig for gems or gold or fossils or something. If you know anything, please share. Thanks. :]

Well, the ONLY diamond mine in the U.S. is in Arkansas....
I think Idaho has other gems tho. Actually there are several places in the U.S. to find other gems - theres a place in Franklin N.C.
