how do you keep long nails clean?

im studdying beauty at college and have been told i have to grow my nails because beautians have to have nice nails but i always keep mine short because i cant stand dirty nails. i have started to grow them but im finding it hard cleaning them all the time i get make up down them and everything its really disgusting. does anyone have any tips on how to stop them getting dirty? i cant bare it lol

I have a really hard time keeping my nails long. They will get to a certain length and then break off..esp in the winter. I do wash my hands a lot which will dry them out more.
The best thing is to keep them well moisturized with a good lotion or oil.
