Overly Paranoid

I've been following the fires in California since they were first reported on. Normally things like this don't bug me as much, but when things such as this happens in states that I have friends and family in, I become overly paranoid that the worst will happen. Right now I have a cousin that the fire is only a mile away from her house, but since her and her family have been reassured that the fire is going the other way, they haven't evacuated yet. So you can imagine all the worst thoughts are going through my head right now about that situation. Plus I have my mom, grandmother, and a few aunts and uncles that live 3 hours away from the fires in California. How would you handle a situation like this, without getting overly paranoid? How do you coupe with it, if you live hundreds of miles away, and are unable to be of really any help or able to really see that your family members are really ok?
