I have used any different programs to write cds and dvds. Roxio, Nero, Alcohol 120%,CloneCD and many others. For cds I mainly use Itunes or Roxio. They are both really easy to use and burn cds at fast speeds with no errors. When I'm burning dvds i use Roxio. For me its the easiest to easy. It burns dvds fast and with hardly any errors. Another thing I like about Roxio is that its able to compress a DVD9(Dual Layer) dvd to a single layer dvd without losing much quality and still be able to keep all the menus and special features.

I use Nero to burn my CDs, which came bundled along with the CD writer. It is really a easy to use and efficient CD writing software.

A few times Nero, other times 120% (heh!). I use my default sonic for basic copy and records though.
