Simcards: Is it advisable to get more than 1?

I have some friends and workmates who have lots of sim casrds,well, i am quite annoyed to know that they've been maintaining different sim. Sometimes I don't even know what mobile number to call so that i may be able to contact them. Well, I even got mad sometimes because my text messages has been put into hang because i texted the wrong number. In order for me to contact them i would miss call them first, or worst i get to text all of ther simcard number hoping for them to reply. I want to erase their numbers in my phone list but my dilemma is if i'll delete their numbers i might not be able to contact them again.
