I'm 49. YEARS ago, as a kid, I loved comic books but was never allowed to have them - no reason other than just a waste of money mom said. But this one time, we visited a friend of my dad's and the man gave my oldest brother a dollar (there were 4 of us kids) and told us to walk down to the little market and split the dollar for each of use to buy something. Chris (my brother) said that was 25 cents for each of us. I thought we were filthy rich! The four or us pursued that little market for the longest time (good way to get rid of the kids!) we looked at everything. Candy was something we always wanted as we never got that either. But I wanted a comic book - Archie of course as those teenagers were so cool and Archie was so cute and I like the girl with the dark hair - forget her name now. But I wanted to be like that! The comic book was 25 cents. The decision between 25 cent worth of candy and Archie and the teen agers was SO HARD! I remember that clearly - I struggled with that. But...Archie and Jughead won out! I carried that comic book with me everywhere! Read it till the words fell off the pages! talk about a 25 cent memory!

hi coffebreak... that's really an interesting story. wow, 25 cents, mighty cheap back then... what was the candy you wanted? most of my archie comics are given by my cousin who grew up collecting it... he gave us most of it... so we didnt have to spend much though we added a few here and there... the girl you referring to may be veronica "ronnie" lodge. thanks for responding.

Veronica! That was it! My Idol! Yeah, cheap - it was back in the early to mid 60's. We went on camping vacations quite often. Mom never caught on that a comic book was probably the cheapest babsitter in the world! ANd one happy kid it made!

Yes I did read Archie comicbooks before when I was still young. They are funny. They are group of high school buddies that study at Riverdale High. I can remember Jughead whose eyes looks always asleep. I can remember the faces or characters in the comic books but forgot their names. There's Moose, the one who's big and stout. Betty and Veronica are friends. Ronnie, and who else?

hello meaculpa. Veronica's nickname is ronnie. the gang members are reggie(self-absorbed and rich like ronnie), dilton (einstien prodigy), ethel(lanky tall girl who fancies jughead), chuck (the artist/basketball player). i grew up reading it and watching the cartoon version. did you get to see it?
