I must be getting old. Kitchen appliances are supposed to be WHITE, aren't they

I just saw an ad for a deep fryer, and the thing was deep purple in color. I have seen colored tea kettles, can openers, hand mixers, blenders, and toasters. There are also many other small kitchen appliances offered in bright colors. In my kitchen I have cheery fruit wallpaper and nice colored tiles on the floor and I keep brightly colored towels and pot holders. My dishes and cloth napkins and place mats are colorful. But my small appliances are plain, quiet colors like white and china blue. Somehow bright red and purple just don't seem right. I used to have avocado stove and refrigerator when I was first married in the 80s. At the time they were 25 years old and I bought them second hand. If I were to buy new appliances, avocado is not the color I would choose of my own free will. Also, goldenrod colored appliances were available in the seventies. Omigosh. I don't want to be made nauseous in my own kitchen. White appliances rock... Don't they? I don't even mind wiping them down every other day or so to keep them white. They just seem so much brighter and nicer to me.

Yup, you're getting old. *giggles* Eh, I don't want avocado, I can tell you that. But I do like darker-colored kitchens, especially if you have a lot of wood in your house or something. Something like... hunter green, or burgundy, I could definitely see having in my kitchen. Maybe I just have strange taste. I wouldn't want bring colors, but darker, richer colors, definitely. I think a bright kitchen would be too much to face in the morning, and I'd hurl. I wake up feeling really bad, I'm not a morning person, so I don't want either bright white OR bright colors in my kitchen.

Actually my favorite NEW popular "colors" for the kitchen are woodgrain or stainless. Woodgrain is very classic and warm. Stainless to me, especially with a brushed finish is very classy. Lecanis, you sound pregnant. If you're a guy, you should get the morning sickness checked or stop partying so hard at night. LOL.

Good comeback. I know what you mean about not being a morning person actually. I would way rather sit up at night at the computer or with a book or watching TV. Why does the bed always feel better in the morning?

Ah, it does sound like I would like your kitchen. Us having similar taste again, eh? And I'm sure you'd make an excellent breakfast. ;)

I would absolutely LOVE to have purple appliances. :) I have a rental so i can't do much to the kitchen, but if i had my own house i would have an awesome kitchen. I would probaly do the black and white floor tile, i just like the way it looks. Lots of chrome, purple and accents of green. :) Ok, so awesome is relative, but i think it would be swell. :)

HEHE it is funny you mention it because the other day I was looking at a flyer and it had a bright red microwave on sale. I even pointed it out to my 12 year old daughter and she said "tacky" So I don't think it is an age thing. Just companies putting out more things that maybe someone would like. Though all my stuff is white, I do like the stainless steel look I have only seen on TV LOL and will never likely own. I also don't mind black either. Those colors can kinda go with any mook you have in a kitchen. But purple, red! That would not last the 20 or 30 years I plan to keep it. But if anyone wants to buy me a pumpkin color appliance that I don't have to pay a lick for I would take it. LOL

For the larger appliances (stove, fridge) I like the brushed metal. For the smaller kitchen appliances, I love the bright red. My kitchen is done in red and black. White is just too boring for me, but that is just my personal opinion and taste. I love that everything comes in random colors now!

It really does come down to personal taste.

set your kitchen with a trend. You have to make your kitchen alive. Because you prepare your meal for the day everyday. To give your soul for a nice menu then give a shade of colour into your kitchen in that way you might as well enjoy cooking. Happy kitchen revamping!

I want a new floor more than anything. As soon as finances allow, there will be a new floor.

Most of my appliances are white or stainless but I received a red food processor from my mom...it's a fun pop of color in my neutral kitchen but I wouldn't want all of my appliances that color.

Thanks for participating in my discussion. Personally, my entire house is decorated in "early American garage sale" which means that in general nothing really matches. I don't have matching bedroom or livingroom furniture and my kitchen appliances really are not the same style as each other either. I know some women who as young brides went way out of their way to make everything match. Maybe it's just because I can't afford it, or maybe it's sour grapes because I know I can't afford it, but I really don't think matching home decor is a big deal. But that's just me. Personal taste is everything. I guess I'm just not into being in vogue.
