Walking around my local area I see a lot of rubbish on the ground. I think it makes the streets, areas of grass and paths look dirty. There are many rubbish bins around but people still throw their garbage on the ground. Why do you think they do this? I spoke to a woman that has bags holding dog mess thrown over her fence. She finds it horrible to find this in her garden. Does this sort of thing happen in your neighborhood? How do you feel about harm to the environment?

It's very bad here. Trash is thrown out along the roadside, in shopping center parking lots, on store floors...you name it. I think it is just the polite thing to do to put trash in the garbage cans, especially when they are provided! We were out at one of the local lakes the other day at a park and I was just amazed at the junk in the lake. We found a baby stroller emerged, coke bottles, and misc. junk!

It is a nice park and lake. It's a shame that some people can't respect that and keep it looking nice for everyone to enjoy. We have a small park in our neighborhood that the teenagers keep destroying. The park commission has given up and closed the gate, tired of the continual repairs. Sad!

I wonder how the baby's stroller ended up in the lake. Without all the garbage it could be a beauty spot.

Hello there. I am glad my neighborhood does not have garbage problems. My country has done a good job in educating us to dump our rubbish properly. The habit of throwing litters into the dustbin has been instilled in me since young. I hate seeing people throwing litters on the ground or dumping rubbish along the streets. That's very inconsiderate of them My country has been termed the 'Fine' country. People who are caught littering/spitting/dumping in my country will be fined SGD 1000 or USD 667. This has deterred some people from littering.

Wow! That is a huge fine. If people had a fine of this amount in my county and it was well policed litter would be cleared forever. Your country is charming and delightfully clean. I have been there twice now. My country has to have a chewing gum remover but it is banned in your country? Many thanks for your excellent response.

Yea. My country has indeed banned chewing gums. It was banned about 2 decades ago.

Fortunantly I live out in the country where its not that big a problem. At my mothers in town its pathetic how much just has to be picked up before she can mow. She lives on a corner so there are always lots of bottles, cans & such.

Even in the countryside there is lots of rubbish. People throw it out of car windows as they pass green fields. Many thanks for your super response.

Well out here we live by the country rules. Its a backroad so if your driving there you probably live nearby. If somebody spotted you throwing stuff out your window they'd gather up all the trash & deliver it to your front lawn. The cityfolk who move out here learn quick usually.

It's all over my country here. I come from India. Especially, the tourist places are filled with filth. Even the most beautiful places like the Himalayas are full of filth and garbage. People just throw, plastics and pepsi, coke cans everywhere. It's just a horrible sight to see. Even the tourism officials never seem to be bothered about it. And not to ask, these hospitals also throw all the bandage and medicine wrappers and syringes on the road side. Can you believe hospitals disposing garbage in such a filthy manner spreading germs everywhere?

Thanks for your superb response. I am shocked to hear about the hospital being so dirty with its rubbish. It must look horrible and being a danger to people's health. Think of all the germs spreading and the children could hurt themselves on used equipment. Tourists in beauty spots like the Himalayas don't want to see rubbish. I wish the tourism officials did something about cleaning the rubbish up.

I don't know why it is so hard for people to out their trash in a trash can. There is a lot of trash on the sides of the road where I live and it drives me crazy. Don't throw trash out of your car and throw it in a trash can if you're out walking! Grrrr! That's what the trash can is for. I never throw trash anywhere except a trash can.

You are right about it being so important for people to use a trash can. I think people in cars could collect their rubbish in a bag or box. Then empty this into a rubbish bin.

Yeah I know, I hate that. Just yesterday I was walking behind this man who was carrying this big white plastic bag. There were bins like every 10 metars on his why but at the certain point he got out something from his plastic bag and threw it down on the street. I was astonished, just couldn't believe it. I mean, I don't understand that kind a people. I wouldn't understan if he threw something smaller but a big plastic bag...that's incredible.

It is terrible that the man didn't put the white plastic bag in one of the bins. Yesterday I saw a man use a small plastic bag to pick up his dog's mess. Then he threw it over a high fence into someones garden. He should have carried the bag with him until he found a bin. Yes, this sort of behavior is incredible. I wish people could act more responsibly.

Yes...it happens all the time here in Toronto too. People just throw thier trash on the ground sometimes when a garbage is just a few steps away...however I do feel that more garbage cans need to be made available especially in the bigger cities...

I thought Canada would have quite clean streets. But no, more garbage bins need to be made available so that people can make the right choice to help the environment.

Rubbish and proper disposal of it is a common problem here in my place, I really don't know why people do this. I believe part of the problem is also those authorities who implements such laws, if they don't strictly uphold it and no one heard of someone apprehended because of violating the laws then people will never stop doing what they think is the easiet way to dispose rubbish. No matter how hard they push information drives, people will not follow, especially when they see that these authorities were the first one's that breaks their laws. I make sure that I just do my part, hoping that others would realize that maintaining a clean environment can provide us benefits..

Its a most common site to see people throwing garbages in roads in my city..usually the corporation staffs get clear all those garbages from the dustbin and its pathetic to see them doing this work.some people here just throw the garbages outside the dustbin and make the roads dirty too.. when the corporation employees sometimes dont come for cleaning these stinks and causes bad smell all over the place..i feel people needs civic sense not to throw garbages in roads and out them only in dustbins..

The corporation people should care about keeping the streets clean. When one dustbin is full I put rubbish in the next one available. The smell of rubbish can be disgusting hey. I saw a van spraying the footpaths to get rid of moss today. That is a natural plant. I think picking up rubbish is more important. Many thanks for your superb response.

There are still many people who do not care about the environment. There many who do not care about others, about the public, about the society or the community. All they care is for their habit that they could not break, that is, to throw rubbish anywhere they like. No matter what you do or how many campaigns are done by the authorities, these people would stop at nothing. I wonder how can we teach them some lessons?

When I was in Indonesia I was on a boat. Feeling a bit sea sick I went to sit on the narrow deck. It was awful when the captain threw all his rubbish into the sea. The sea there most be very polluted by people like this man. They should listen to the campaigns.

Yes, I have to admit that there are some people who throw their rubbish without putting it into the rubbish bins. They are not friendly to our environment, which is so bad behaviour. I hope that they will enjoy good quality to take care of our environment.

actually in china, there are so many rubbish throwed outside anywhere by people.people dont care about the adverse influence of the rubbish, just cuz the convenience and lazzy habit.sometimes when you look at the bad behavior that nobody come out to ban,we will doubt why i should keep the ground clean rather than others.so we start to throw our rubbish anywhere. but now i'm living in Australia,i dont find anyone throw their rubbish anywhere,so if i throw it i will feel shy and embarrassed.i think the reason why people throw rubbish is people are approved to throw it.If there are some supervisor or monitor, the situation will be better.

Australia is a lovely and clean country. I have not seen people drop rubbish on the ground there. I have visited Hong Kong and remember seeing lots of garbage on the beach in the outer laying area. The people think it is acceptable but is harms the environment. I think supervising the people is a great idea. Thanks for your good response.

Well Sis, I found it to be people's nature, like you know, some people are naturally dirty, no matter how you scold, talk, correct, they still find it very difficult to change, So I think thats just the reason you see such thing, It happens in every neighborhood. Like they say Cahrity begins at home, thats just how they live in thier various places.

Yes, some people enjoy a dirty sort of lifestyle where their garden looks like a rubbish tip. Charity begins at home and I think all parents should help their children care for the world. Throwing rubbish in a bin is not a difficult thing to do.

in my country this seems to be a way of life. throwing dirts and litering the environment not only harms the environment but also harms our health. i think people should begin to have a rethink of their actions.

Yes, harming our health with this rubbish is a terrible thing to do. I think all school children should help pick up rubbish and then enjoy an unspoilt landscape. Then they might not want to drop litter anymore.

Yes, this happens in our area. I think it's a lack of thought for others and people not caring about their neighbourhood. I see many adults and children just throw their rubbish in the street. My children were taught from an early age to either put their rubbish in a bin or take it home with them and my grandchildren have been taught the same. It doesn't really take much effort to keep the neighbourhood tidy but too many people just don't care.

It is wonderful that you taught your kids to put rubbish in a bin. It is also superb that they haver passed such good values to your grandchildren. I remember oner girl at school when I was a child. She hated her sandwiches and juice so she got rid of them by throwing them under an old car that was parked in the street. Caring for others and looking after the environment is something I wish everyone did.

Oh that is just plain nasty for people to throw their dog poop into other people's yards. I don't notice it in our neighborhood and everyone pretty much picks up after themselves however I do see the odd dog dropping which annoys me because its on the footpaths which I walk on - its disgusting when owners don't pick up after their animals.

I should say that this was a guity things that the people threw the gabarge at her garden, and i really hate the people who often throw the gabarge at the ground.because all of the gabarge was threw by people is one reason caused the environment pollution. if you can remind youself do not throw the rubbish anywhere, you will make a contribute for the environment protection.you should think about that a lot,if everyone does like you did,the world will become beautiful as it was.

Singapore is a very clean city. People do not drop any garbage at all. There are fines for doing the wrong thing in life like dropping rubbish. However I went to a beach in an outer laying area of Hong Kong and there was litter all over the place. Some of the rubbish got in the sea and perhaps harmed wildlife. If there are not nay bins where I am I carry my rubbish until I find a bin. A doggy bin was full so I took my bag to the next doggy bin that was not full yet. If there there are not any bins I will take my rubbish home and put it in my own dustbin. Many thanks for your super response.

I think it is disgusting when people throw away their garbage on the ground; especially if it isn't that hard to walk less then a minute to the nearest garbage can. These bins are not left outside just to be pretty little boxes; it is to help prevent pollution and garbage-buildup in our environment. The worst was when my old school did a clean up of a park and the next week we found a large amount of garbage in the same place! It really is sad that people have gotten this lazy.

It is wonderful that your old school did a clean up. However it must have been very annoying to for all the students to see more rubbish there the next day. The people are lazy. Do you think they put rubbish in the bin when they are at home?
