Do you hand out candies on Halloween or just put them near door

I usually buy candies and have my kids give them but they complain on missing on going for trick-o-treating and want me to put the candies near the door for the kids to pick themselves because they want to go out and have fun and my husband refuses to sit and distribute the candies. What do you do hand them or leave near the door?

Well if I am home I hand out the candy. If your husband wont hand out the candy then let him take the kids out. We are going to a party at our church Halloween night instead of Trick or Treating. That way even if it is cold and rainy we will still have fun.

I think it's best to distribute them yourself. I've found that when someone puts a bowl next to the door with a "help yourself" sign, all of the candy is gone in minutes because kids take handfuls (or just dump the whole bowl in their bag), and a lot of kids miss out. If your husband refuses to do it and you don't want to, then don't hand any out at all. Just let the kids go trick-or-treating themselves (or with you to supervise, since that's safer), and keep your porch light off so no one comes up to ring the bell.
