How do you make cats play nice with each other?

For awhile our two cats were best of friends. But, since the kitten came along, they are always upset at each other. And, now everyone is fighting. Well, not the kitten. He is oblivious to all the fuss that he has caused and plays away the day. Meanwhile the other cats can barely stand to be around each other. And, to make matters worse, both big cats hate the kitten and won't have anything to do with him. Well, occasionally the big cat will allow the kitten to chase him around. But, other times he acts very annoyed with it. I can't understand his attitude. When we brought our second cat into the house, he was more than happy. He even acted as surrogate mom to her. Very sweet. But, not so much now. How can I make the cats behave and get along with each other? Is that impossible? How long will it take for them to adjust to the newcomer? Would appreciate some advice.

hi there beautyqueen26 when my female cat gave birth to kittens the other day our male came and sniffed them and started hissing at them i said be nice and my female cat sniffed the male cat and my male cat sniffed her and he started hissing at her too it did not happen again i make sure that i watch out for the signs thanks for the discussion

Morning beauty queen. I read this discussion with great interest. Well, I do not have advice, but I think that it is because these two adult cats are just happy to be with each other like a couple that are in love with each other and hate to be bothered by a third one. And as this kitten is young and always chases them leaving them no privacy and thus this unpleasant case happens between them. I just analysed this from the angle of us human beings. lol

It sounds like the cats are annoyed with the newcomer and are making their hard heads,hehe.They want to be the higher upper and feel intimidated by the young one and ignore it.I would let them be for awhile longer,sometimes it does take a little bit more time with certain cats to get used to another.Like my 2,tiger loved our first cat right away after 1 day,but now our other one missy,it took tiger a week or so to except her.But she did and everythings great now unless missy bothers her and tiger will bite her tail,haha. Oh I like cats, especially catwoman, ha..ha.. just kidding, cats is one of many nice pets but i hate dog very much.
